Vinpearl Resorts opens a third hotel in Nha Trang, Vietnam

Vinpearl Resorts has recently seen the opening of a new five-star hotel on Hon Tre Island near Nha Trang in the latest expansion of its integrated resort complex on the island. The Vinpearl Premium Nha Trang Bay is located on a secluded, lush-green promontory in the north western corner of the island. The gently curved beachfront property will feature 481 hotel rooms, 173 luxurious villas and world class facilities including signature Vincharm Spa, private beach, kids club, two meeting rooms backed by a well-equipped business centre and a choice of four restaurants and three bars.

Standout features include its sleek modern interiors and stylish design palette which makes ample use of whites, creams and light woods backed by high-end fixtures and fittings.

IHG® signs its fifth InterContinental® hotel in France: InterContinental® Lyon Hotel Dieu

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG®) has recently announced the signing of InterContinental® Lyon Hotel Dieu in Lyon, France. The hotel will operate under a management agreement with Crédit Agricole Assurances and will be developed by Eiffage.Located right on the bank of the river Rhône, the property is being converted from Lyon’s former Hôtel Dieu, one of the oldest hospitals in France, famed for its architectural beauty. It forms part of a listed group of buildings that dates back to the 17th Century, close to Place Bellecour in the very heart of the city.

InterContinental® Lyon Hotel Dieu and the adjoining conference centre are part of a multi-purpose development project named Grand Hôtel Dieu, an area of exceptional size in Lyon’s city centre featuring shops, restaurants, offices, private apartments and the neighbouring “Cité de la Gastronomie”.

The hotel’s 143 rooms will include 24 junior suites, one Presidential Suite and 118 deluxe and superior rooms. InterContinental® Lyon Hotel Dieu will feature a Club InterContinental lounge, multiple restaurants with access to a terrace from the main restaurant, a lounge bar, two meeting rooms and a sizeable 100m2 fitness centre. The connected, modern 2,500m2 conference centre will include nine meeting rooms with ample pre-meeting space, as well as a lounge and a 500m2 ballroom.

Panaz Move to new Design, Manufacturing and Distribution Centre and celebrate 30 years in the Business

In order to facilitate the expansion of their worldwide business, Panaz, who design and manufacture fabrics for the Hospitality, Healthcare and Corporate markets, have moved their European headquarters to a new facility of 90,000 sq. ft. in Hapton, Burnley, England. Tony Attard, CEO of Panaz Limited, stated that 20,000 sq. ft. is made up of office space, a new design studio and a fully furnished Showroom and 70,000 sq. ft. is allocated to manufacturing and distribution space.Previously Panaz occupied three sites in Burnley: the main manufacturing hub at Spring Mill in Fence, a satellite warehouse for large shipments and a separate showroom. The new facility is designed to consolidate all of these three sites onto one, adding significantly to the efficiency of the operation and in preparation for future growth. In addition to this expansion, a new digital print manufacturing is being added to the operation to provide more design flexibility to clients and faster delivery times for bulk projects.

Panaz have been operating since 1985 and site location move ties in with their 30th anniversary. To celebrate this achievement, Panaz held an Opening Day on Thursday, 11th June where guests were invited to view the new site and were given tours of the various operations, product presentations and machinery demonstrations. To mark the occasion, Tony Attard spoke to all the guests and staff, thanking them for the role they had all had to play over the past 30 years and indicated his plans he and the company have for the future. Panaz were fortunate to have Lord Shuttleworth, in attendance at the Opening Day and after a few words, he officially opened the new building revealing a plaque in the main reception area. It was fitting for The Lord Lieutenant to be part of the celebrations as he had visited Panaz in the very early days and was well aware of how the company developed both in the UK and overseas and how the business itself had grown over the past 30 years.

Autograph Collection Hotels is set to welcome a luxurious new boutique property to its collection on 8 July 2015. Located in a beautiful corner building established in 1907, The Hotel, which opened in 2000, is an urban design hotel with exceptional park views set in the heart of Lucerne.Owner Urs Karli – a leading hotelier renowned for his innovative gastronomy concepts – is behind the vision of The Hotel, and worked with award-winning French architect Jean Nouvel to transform the building into a unique space for a modern hotel. Intimate and unpretentiously hip, The Hotel sits in a buzzing area, just a stone’s throw from the shores of Lake Lucerne.

Spread across seven floors, the hotel incorporates 30 studios and suites, each providing guests with an unforgettable experience, as a play of light and color produces individual effects in each room – all of which are different. All of The Hotel’s vertical panels are made from wood, whilst the horizontal panels are made from stainless steel. Each room is unique, with different ceiling or wall projections depicting 30 film scenes from Nouvel’s own personal background, creating a cinematic experience for guests.

With the lobby as the focal meeting point, Urs Karli has created a cosmopolitan area for lounging and dining. Bam Bou is Lucerne’s most stylish restaurant and displays unique design details, offering simplicity, comfort and innovation. The menu fuses Asian with French cuisine, drawing upon French tradition and techniques, and combining them with Asian spices. IHG Brings Two New Hotels to Mazatlán, Mexico

Hamilton launches new ‘Vogue™’ White Wiring Accessories

Swinton Park Breaks Ground on New Spa Development

Construction work has begun on Swinton Park’s £5.5 million Country Club and Spa, near Masham in North Yorkshire. Keighley-based contractors, RN Wooler & Co Ltd, aim to complete the first phase of building by November 2015, comprising the restoration of workshops and garden buildings that will accommodate a new 40-seat conservatory restaurant. The second phase of the 2,700m2 development will realise a new, contemporary wing that will include a generous indoor swimming pool, six treatment rooms, three heat experiences, rasul, wellness pool and full fitness facilities.

The Spa will be open to Swinton Park and Swinton Bivouac guests, day visitors and club members whilst the Country Club will afford access to activities on the wider 20,000 acre Swinton Estate including cycling, walking, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, golf, falconry and riding.

WATG to design the first Embassy by Hilton in Asia Pacific

Hilton Worldwide and Syncept Investment Group Co., Ltd. recently announced the development of the first Embassy by Hilton in the Asia Pacific. The hotel will be located on the resort island of Hainan in the city of Bo’ao, China.WATG Singapore has been selected as the lead architect for this flagship property. With a long collaborative working relationship with Hilton and a strong understanding of the Hainan hospitality market, WATG is positioned with the experience to execute a successful new destination for Syncept Investment Group and Hilton Worldwide.

The signing event was hosted by Mr. Zhang Weike Chairman of Syncept Investment Group Co., Ltd., and special guests included Hilton’s Mr. Bruce McKenzie, senior vice president, operations – Greater China and Mongolia. Also in attendance was Dave Moore, senior vice president and chairman of the board of directors at WATG. Harlequin unveils three vivacious bedlinen designs for autumn/winter 2015

Harlequin’s successful collaboration with Bedeck, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of luxury bedlinen, continues with the launch of more stunning designs for A/W15.Adapted from three eye-catching designs in Harlequin’s recent fabric and wallcovering collections, the bedlinen comes over a range of four sizes of duvet cover (single, double, king and super king) with coordinating pillowcases and accessorised with
throws and cushions.

Paradise: Depicting a mouthwatering design from this spring’s Amazilia collection, Paradise is a loosely-painted, artistic interpretation of tropical flora and fauna, digitally printed for maximum impact. The duvet cover features a flamboyant allover tropical motif in a choice of two vibrant colourways: ‘lagoon’ and ‘flamingo’. It has a plain reverse and flat piping. There are two complementary oxford pillowcases: one featuring the tropical floral motif with a plain reverse and flat piping, whilst the other has a coloured, embroidered edge on a white ground.

Paradise is digitally-printed onto a gloriously soft, 200 thread count, 100% cotton sateen, whilst the embroidered pillowcase is on 180 thread count 100% cotton percale. They are all printed onto 200 thread count 100% cotton sateen. Bahia is accompanied by a 140 x 200cm 100% cotton knitted throw and 45cm square knitted cushion, both of which have an allover geometric pattern and a plain border on all four sides. There is an additional 45cm square 100% linen cushion embroidered with multi-coloured motifs on the front, a plain reverse and navy piping.

Katsura: Based on a design in the Momentum Wallcoverings 3 collection, Katsura depicts a shadowy and ethereal tree in ‘topaz’ on the front of the duvet cover, with an allover texture printed reverse, piped in indigo. There is a choice of two oxford pillowcases, one featuring trees and a plain reverse with indigo piping, the other in the allover texture on both sides with topaz stitching. They are all printed on 200 thread count, 100% cotton sateen. The Katsura cushion is 50 x 30cm, with broken navy horizontal lines embroidered onto a pure linen base with a plain linen reverse and piped in navy. These are complemented by a navy 170 x 220cm throw featuring a dash pattern, quilted in a diamond motif.

During Clerkenwell Design Week, Morgan launched a new collection, Kyoto, and unveiled additions to the popular Metro and Manhattan original seating ranges.KYOTO Collection

The Kyoto linear bench system, inspired by Japanese gardens and bridges, is a new collection designed by Morgan studio. The Kyoto benches overlap at either 90 degrees or 20 degree offset to create asymmetric, reception area seating compositions.

The benches encourage you to take a less direct route from A to B, pause, sit and take in your surroundings from a new perspective as you would in a Japanese garden. The intersections are defined by floating table tops.

The 10 Kyoto compositions available can be specified in contrasting fabrics, with tables available in finishes from timber and Formica to glass and Carrara marble; giving the designer the scope to compose a bold graphic statement or opt for a more tranquil tonal palette.

Following Autograph Collection’s announcement of the brand’s entry into Azerbaijan, Boulevard Hotel Baku and Intourist Hotel Baku have this month joined the collection of strikingly independent hotels. Rocco Forte Hotels Announces Shanghai Property

Sir Rocco Forte, Chairman of Rocco Forte Hotels has recently attended a signing ceremony in Shanghai, announcing that a Rocco Forte hotel will open in Shanghai in 2018, constituting the group’s first move into the Asia Pacific market. Rocco Forte Hotels will partner with Longhua International to be part of the Longhua International Aviation Service Centre, a new urban complex in Shanghai’s Xuhui Riverside area known as West Bund. Rocco Forte Hotels will be the exclusive luxury international hotel provider to the project. The new modern area will span 7.2 hectares, with an overall floor space of 510,000 square metres, dedicated to business and government office spaces, retail and fashion outlets, cultural amenities such as theatres, and other beautifully landscaped recreational spaces.

Rocco Forte Hotels have been selected by the founders, Longhua International, who have praised the unique family run managerial approach and the group’s distinctive approach to service.

The hotel, which is yet to be named, will take over the top 15 floors of the tallest building of the development and will include around 280 rooms and suites, all with beautiful views of the city. There will be three different restaurants, each with its own identity and speciality, led by Lydia Forte, Sir Rocco’s daughter and Director of Food and Beverage for the hotel group. The hotel will also feature a Rocco Forte spa and health offering complete with a swimming pool. A grand ballroom will host extensive events, launches and conferences. These will all be framed by large public spaces, with design overseen by Olga Polizzi, Director of Design of Rocco Forte Hotels.

The news follows the recent announcement of Rocco Forte Hotels’ expansion, with Sir Rocco revealing his intention to double the number of hotels in the group over the next five years. The existing ten hotels in the collection are largely European based, an area where the group will continue to concentrate, as well as branching further afield to the Middle East.

The Assila Hotel and Residence will open in the heart of the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, later in 2015. The hotel will offer 146 rooms, 62 suites and 94 serviced apartments, as well as four restaurant concepts, spa and 25 metre roof top pool.

The New York EDITION, now open

HotelDesigns recently published an article on The New York EDITION in April this year, but upon receipt of more images, it’s worth another mention to highlight what has been done with the interiors of the iconic “clocktower” building in Madison Square Park, New York.“Luxury has a new address,” says Arne Sorenson CEO of Marriott International. “With the opening of our first EDITION hotel in New York City and the loving restoration of the century old Clocktower building, we have ushered in a new era of timeless hospitality.”

The interiors have been embraced, retained and restored where possible; of note, the dark wood on the walls and the floors on the second floor. However, to give the hotel that downtown New York feel, there are modern interpretations of elements that can be found in the grand mansions of Millionaire’s Row – such as the sculptural spiral staircase leading up to the second floor, and the 30ft-long hand forged blackened steel fireplace.

Continuing this subtle play of modern and period drama, the restaurant on the second floor combines three intimate dining rooms, a parlour and a library – separate spaces but seamlessly designed to form a whole.

An oasis from the outside world, the 273 guest rooms at The New York EDITION look out over Manhattan through the original windows fitted in the 1920s. Each room has a classic, extra-long and deep floating white oak desk, inspired by Jean-Michel Frank, and a bed with a dark walnut headboard and a custom-built walnut platform with bespoke walnut nightstands.

What really differentiates the boutique hotel from an ordinary small hotel is its design-led individuality and style. The design schemes are often unique and aimed at delivering once in a lifetime experience for the guests. Interior design and furniture specifically is an invaluable medium for communicating the original character of a particular hotel and this is exactly the kind of challenge we are happy to take on.

Atholl Palace Hotel unveils new look spa following £70k investment

Atholl Palace Hotel in Pitlochry has invested over £70,000 in transforming its Lavender Spa into a relaxing Highland haven.

The makeover includes a new state-of-the-art sauna and steam room, while the treatment rooms, changing facilities, spa entrance and reception areas have been given a fresh new feel.The hotel, originally named Athole Hydropathic, opened in 1884 as a Victorian health hydro and used the healing powers of natural spring water which comes from the mountain of Ben-y-Vrackie which stands over Pitlochry as a natural tonic.

The Perthshire hotel, which was named as one of the 28 most ‘jaw-dropping’ hotels in the world by global travel website TravelGround, has spent over £1 million in total renovating Atholl Palace Hotel. This has included the creation of extensive woodland walk paths around the grounds and a full refurbishment of the Atholl Suite, conference centre and the hotel’s very own museum.

In advance of the 37th Annual NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. announced it has achieved its strongest first five months of the year for deal signings since 2008. Starwood continues to see balanced growth across its brands and around the world, with North America leading the charge, accounting for nearly 40% of new signings so far in 2015. Development highlights include a 30% increase in deal signings for Starwood’s Speciality Select brands, Aloft, Element and Four Points by Sheraton, which together account for more than three-quarters of North America signings year-to-date; a new developer-friendly vision for the Sheraton brand to be unveiled on June 1; and the launch of its 10th brand, Tribute Portfolio. Adam Aron, CEO of Starwood Hotels & Resorts on an interim basis, said: “We are putting an even brighter spotlight on our world-class hotel brands as we work to accelerate the pace of our growth, better serve our guests, and offer more hotel options to more guests in more places than ever before.”

North America Growth Momentum Building in 2015
This year, Starwood will reach its 600th hotel milestone in North America, which remains the company’s largest market with its most hotels in the development pipeline. Aloft, Starwood’s tech-forward incubator brand, is on the cusp of opening its 100th hotel worldwide with its strongest signing momentum in North America since 2008 and twice as many deals signed in North America as compared to this time last year. Element, Starwood’s eco-innovation lab, will open more hotels this year than ever in its history and is on track to nearly triple its global portfolio in the next three years due to increasing guest and owner demand.

Starwood Strengthens its Leading High-End Portfolio
With nearly 75% of its portfolio at the high-end, Starwood continues to build on its strong foothold and incredible global brand recognition in the luxury and upper upscale space.

On the luxury end, across The Luxury Collection and St. Regis brands, Starwood will open more hotels in 2015 than it has in any one year since 2001. The Luxury Collection, which boasts a portfolio of 95 hotels and resorts throughout the world, continues to convert hotels, including the recent addition of Sunset Key, 40 luxury cottages nestled off the coast of Key West, Florida, as well as invest in renovations such as the iconic Palace Hotel in San Francisco and the St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. The brand will add a number of new destinations to its portfolio this year including Lake Tahoe, Nevada; Chicago, Illinois; Nanjing, China; Kyoto, Japan; and Broumana, Lebanon.

Starwood’s legendary St. Regis brand, which delivers exceptional experiences at 34 luxury hotels and resorts in the best addresses around the world, recently opened its doors in Istanbul and is set to make debuts in Mumbai and Dubai by the end of this year.

Westin, which crossed the 200th hotel milestone in 2014, will add another ten hotels to its portfolio in 2015. While more than half of its operating hotels are in the United States, Westin is experiencing phenomenal global demand, with more than 70% of the brand’s development pipeline outside of the U.S.

Following the recent openings of Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok Resort and Spa, Le Méridien Indianapolis, Le Méridien Thimphu (Bhutan), Le Méridien Columbus, The Joseph, Le Méridien Mahabaleshwar Resort & Spa (India), Le Méridien Gurgaon, Delhi NCR (India), and Le Méridien Saigon, Le Méridien will open nine additional hotels this year, nearly all in Asia Pacific, in destinations including Bangladesh, Bhutan, China and Malaysia. It boasts a free standing round copper bath, a 90 inch television screen and a huge seven feet wide Hypnos bed, along with a separate walk-in shower room, dressing area and a personal dining area.

The suite also has a number of Juliet balconies with undisturbed views over one of the the hotel’s two championship golf course.

The creation of the room is part of a £16m development at the hotel, which includes a state-of-the-art spa which will be open in early August.

And now a range of packages have been launched for stays in the Premier Suite, including a special celebration offering for those who really want to enjoy a memorable night away.

The Celebration Package includes an overnight stay in the Premier Suite, dinner in the award-winning Rib Room Steakhouse and Grill, a full English breakfast and Taittinger Champagne on ice with chocolate dipped strawberries, luxury fruit and chocolate truffles.

Marriott International announced plans to open the first Courtyard by Marriott brand hotel in Kingston, the capital city of Jamaica. The project is being developed by Caribe Hospitality Jamaica.The property has a practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions, allowing it to seek a LEED Silver Certification. This building will be 30% more energy-efficient than a standard building with a 16% reduction in water consumption, a 30% use of regional materials and will produce 5% of its energy on-site through solar panels.

The 129-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel, scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2015, will be located 19km from the Norman Manley International Airport and close to the city’s best dining and shopping.

The hotel will feature the brand’s refreshing business lobby, lobby bar, a casual dining restaurant, flexible meeting space and recreational facilities including a swimming pool and fitness centre. Head Chef Steve Smith @ Bohemia has enjoyed a spectacular year being named Catey Chef of the Year 2014, retaining Bohemia’s Michelin Star, being awarded 4AA Rosettes, as well as being listed in The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants, with special praise being given to Bohemia’s desserts which were listed ‘6th Best in the UK’. Following Steve’s unprecedented success in raising the culinary bar even higher for the restaurant, the owners of Bohemia felt compelled to revitalise the interior design to match. Bohemia’s private dining area has been completely transformed and now oozes lavish style. One wall has been clad in statement black matt wallpaper, featuring an intricate gold design. A wall of panelled frosted glass to the front of the restaurant allows natural light to flood into the restaurant, whilst maintaining its discreet ambience.

The crowning feature of the private dining room is a statement chandelier made from 200 Champagne glasses. Each glass is individually illuminated with glowing effervescent ‘Champagne’ to give the illusion that it has just been poured.

The adjacent light and airy bar immediately envelopes each guest in comfort and style. Contemporary patterned banquette sofas in burnt orange and rich blue hues run along the entire length of the room in front of the large feature windows. In addition, buttoned oxblood-red leather chairs are neatly positioned to the opposite side of the inviting occasion tables.

The space is also adorned with interesting artwork, while a large brown granite-topped bar gives a focal point to the room. Glass panels subtly divide seating areas, creating interesting spaces and discreet nooks and corners for guests.

Head Chef Steve Smith was one of the youngest chefs in the country to achieve a Michelin star over 10 years ago, at the age of just 24.

Water Workshop 2.0: Water stewardship in the hospitality sector

Protecting water and promoting sustainability is now a major global concern and it is essential that the hospitality industry works together on water stewardship. In light of this, GROHE is delighted to have teamed up with the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group to organise a series of water workshops with influential leaders and suppliers of the hospitality sector.

Launched in 2014, the second water workshop took place in Düsseldorf on 7 May 2015 with 15 partners from the sanitary and hospitality sectors, as well as experts in architecture, design, property management and behavioural psychology. The water workshops were created to identify untapped opportunities to reduce the water footprint of hotels. The workshop featured lectures and discussions on topics such as “future-proof buildings” and “guest behaviour”, and also raised fundamental questions on “hotels of the future”, including whether they would be water neutral and important providers of water to local communities.

“One of the vital questions we addressed this year was how to motivate hotel operators, project developers and property investors to integrate state-of-the-art water-saving technologies in their new hotel constructions and/or refurbishments,” said Michael Rauterkus, CEO of GROHE AG. “As we continue to develop new solutions for the responsible use of natural resources, we are not only protecting our environment but also helping hotel operators reduce their operational costs. By using new technological innovations by GROHE, hotels can meet the stringent standards for sustainable buildings and treat their customers to a unique water experience. At the water workshop, we showcased several options for the sustainable use of water, and exchanged information and experience on the specific challenges faced by the hospitality sector, both in water-rich and water-poor regions.”

The second part of the workshop put guest behaviour centre stage. In particular, participants explored ways in which to heighten awareness of responsible water use and how to positively influence guest behaviour.

Olivier Harnisch, Chief Operating Officer of The Rezidor Hotel Group, said: “Our hotels have successfully reduced water use in operations by 27% but we are not going to stop here. New Holiday Inn® Hotel Slated to open at Bellingham, WA Airport (BLI)

Hotel Services Group, LLC (HSG) is pleased to announce the groundbreaking of a new 153-room Holiday Inn hotel in Bellingham, WA. HSG answered the Port of Bellingham’s call for a hotel development proposal in late 2012, who has since executed a land lease agreement with the development group (Bellingham HI, LLC).The development group anticipates an opening date for the $24MM hotel in the summer of 2016. Mount Vernon, WA based M&H Contracting, LLC is the General Contractor for the project, and Hotel Services Group, LLC (HSG) will be managing the operations of the hotel.

The full-service Holiday Inn hotel will be constructed approximately 600 feet from the airport’s main terminal, with clear visibility from WA Interstate-5. The hotel will feature over 9,000 sq./ft. of meeting/convention and pre-function space, and all the amenities to which travellers are accustomed; including a restaurant and bar tailored specifically for travellers and local patrons. The building design will be consistent with the most recent airport renovation, creating a natural connection between the airport and hotel.

Dan Mitzel, Principal, M&H Contracting notes that “to the benefit of both leisure and business travellers, we’re excited to continue to work with the Port of Bellingham and its operations team to ensure that we become a strong and seamless extension of the very important and successful airport”. Port of Bellingham Commissioner Dan Robbins is also excited about the new development, adding that “frequent travellers are looking for ways to conduct business without having to get into a car, and with this hotel they’ll be able to do that in Bellingham.”

HSG anticipates the hotel to open the City of Bellingham to new markets, generating new demand for room-nights, domestic flights, and larger conventions. The project is expected to generate an additional 60-70 full-time jobs at the location alone. HSG currently manages eight (8) other hotels throughout the State of Washington, and is based in Mount Vernon, WA.

World’s Largest Holiday Inn Hotel Set to Open in Makkah in Late 2015

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG®) has announced the signing of a management agreement with Al Majd Al Arabiah Company for what will be the world’s largest Holiday Inn hotel. Holiday Inn Makkah Abraaj Al Tayseer is due to open in The Holy City of Makkah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Comprising 5,154 rooms across five towers, Holiday Inn Makkah Abraaj Al Tayseer will take the site of the current Abraaj Al Tayseer pilgrim accommodation and open in phases. Nearly 1,650 rooms across two towers are due to open its doors to guests by the end of this year. The remaining 3,500 rooms are slated to open over the following three years.

The opening of Holiday Inn Makkah Abraaj Al Tayseer will cater to the growth in pilgrim visits to Makkah. Hajj visit numbers are expected to more than double, growing from 2 million in 2013 to exceed 5 million by 2025. Infrastructure under development, such as the expansion of Jeddah’s airport, which is expected to increase its capacity to 80 million passengers by 2035, will further boost pilgrim numbers in the coming years.

Located just 900 metres from the Grand Mosque, Holiday Inn Makkah Abraaj Al Tayseer will offer guests privileged views of the Al-Masjid al-Ḥarām (The Grand Mosque). Each tower will house one large all day dining restaurant, where menus will be tailored for guests travelling in groups. The two towers opening this year will also feature meeting spaces, fitness centres and a medical clinic.

IHG and Greenland USA to Develop the First Hotel Indigo® in Downtown Los Angeles

IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) and Greenland USA, a leading developer of residential and commercial properties, today announce the signing of the first Hotel Indigo® hotel in the city of Los Angeles, California. The 350-room, 18-story Hotel Indigo Downtown Los Angeles will be the flagship hotel at Metropolis, a more than $1 billion mixed-use development which promises to redefine the Los Angeles streetscape, skyline and lifestyle. Currently under construction, Metropolis will also feature three residential towers and a curated retail experience. Sale & Franchise-Back of seven hotels in the United Kingdom and Ireland for €38 million

As part of the Group’s strategy to restructure the assets of HotelInvest, its hotel owner and investor business, Accor today announces the sale and franchise-back of seven hotels (708 rooms) for €32.6 million, along with a commitment from the buyers to carry out €5.2 million worth of renovations. The transactions were carried out with two strong partners: Starboard Hotels Ltd. for a portfolio of five ibis hotels (Birmingham Bordesley Circus, Leicester City, London Gatwick Airport, Plymouth and Sheffield City) and a joint venture between Cannock Investments Ltd and Hetherley Capital Partners for the ibis Coventry Centre and the ibis Dublin West in Ireland. The six UK hotels were acquired by Accor last December as part of the acquisition of the Tritax portfolio.

As previously announced, three hotelF1 establishments adjacent to three of the ibis hotels in the portfolio (Liverpool City, London Thurrock and London Barking) are currently being converted into extensions of the recently acquired hotels.

John Ozinga, Chief Operating Officer of HotelInvest commented: “Through these two deals, HotelInvest is pursuing its strategy in the United Kingdom – a key market for the Group. ‘A no-brainer’ verdict for Forbes Group’s Buffet-Rite

Forbes Group has been delighted to receive a positive verdict on its Buffet-Rite table tops from Franck Rosello, the Central Operations and Projects Manager for the award-winning etc.venues. Rosello has responsibility for fifteen stylish and busy locations across London and Birmingham. In the last three years, he has ordered ninety-five of Forbes’ Buffet-Rites – wipe-clean, heat proof table tops that fit over existing tables. When Forbes asked what mattered most to him about the product, Rosello listed three elements: its aesthetic, its practicality and its economics.

Rosello explained that the slick looks of the Buffet-Rite, particularly when used over the slinky Silcra cover made an eye-catching statement in keeping with his venues’ aesthetic. Furthermore, the wipe-clean, heat-resistant Buffet-Rite lid is, he explained, easy to clean not just after, but also during food & drink presentation – keeping things neat throughout.

So far as the economics of the Buffet-Rite are concerned, it is evidently cheaper to wipe-clean a surface than to launder table cloths, but the Buffet-Rite is more expensive than, say, banqueting roll. But as Franck Rosello put it, “Sure the initial outlay is greater than banqueting cloth, but in the long-run, ‘it’s a no-brainer’.”

Kimpton opens a new Vintage in Downtown Portland

Kimpton Hotels has uncorked a new version of the iconic Hotel Vintage, with a 16-million dollar transformation and redesign. The theme of Oregon wine is front and center as each of the 117 newly re-imagined guest rooms are named for an Oregon winery, emphasizing the hotel’s commitment to the Willamette Valley and giving a nod to local vintners who pour each evening at the hotel’s hosted wine reception.The transformation is striking and dramatic; an entirely new 2-story lobby space brings the story of Oregon wine to life, with light fixtures reminiscent of grape clusters, an area rug with an aerial view depicting the Willamette Valley, a life-size picture of Bacchus the God of Wine and a wineology chalkboard that shows how an Oregon grape becomes Oregon wine.

The blackened steel floating spiral staircase leads to a whimsical game room, where guests can channel their playful side with a pool table, shuffleboard and two video game consoles. A two-sided flat-screen television completes the space, set against a backdrop of a graffiti-wall, representing the edgy attitude of the city. This adult playroom is the perfect way to enjoy the nightly hosted wine hour, or rent out for private events.

For guests who prefer the ground floor, Bacchus Bar is the newest brainchild of Pazzo Ristorante. The 60-seat lobby bar, open 4-11pm (with Happy Hour 4-6pm daily where food items are half price) shows off a cutting edge cocktail menu including an Italian take on classic whisky drinks such as the Amaro Sour and Bitered Julep. Hotel du Vin to open in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon

Malmaison Hotel du Vin, the leading UK boutique hotel brands, are pleased to announce that they have signed a development agreement to transform two Georgian townhouses into a luxurious new 48 bedroom Hotel du Vin in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon. The hotel in Rother Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, will be the fourth to be developed by the Malmaison Hotel du Vin Group in the last 18 months. It follows the purchase, and current conversion to a Hotel du Vin, of Cannizaro House in Wimbledon, south west London and the openings of Malmaison in Dundee and the launch of Hotel du Vin in St. Andrews.

The hotel, which is set to open by the end of 2016, will create jobs for at least 60 people. Facilities at the hotel will include meeting and private dining rooms, a Bistro and a separate banqueting room with the capacity to seat 80 diners. The development will be in keeping with the Grade II listed status of the buildings.

Owned by Katara Hospitality, this Milanese landmark recently emerged from a meticulous, all-encompassing renovation of the historic building, whilst adding a new contemporary wing. Formerly known as “Palace Gallia”, the hotel is strongly rooted in Milanese history, located in the heart of the new Porta Nuova district. Excelsior Hotel Gallia is the latest gem to be unveiled by The Luxury Collection as part of a multi-million Euro investment to restore the brand’s most iconic European hotels.

Led by the award-winning Milan-based Studio Marco Piva, the extensive architecture and interior design project marries contemporary aesthetics with the hotel’s original Belle Époque style. Excelsior Hotel Gallia comprises two buildings – the fully restored historic palace and a new modern wing with a façade that resembles a delicate steel and glass curtain. The striking juxtaposition is inspired by the hotel’s luminous past and the emerging skyline of the Porta Nuova area. Guests entering the hotel are welcomed by the dazzling sight of a custom-made 30-metre Murano glass chandelier created by De Majo, depicting a waterfall of 180 light cylinders which illuminates the eight-story monumental stairwell. The historical lobby pays tribute to notable Milanese architecture of the 1930s, such as La Scala Theatre, Vittorio Emanuele Gallery and Villa Necchi Campiglio. The public spaces have been outfitted by B&B Italia using aluminium, glass and marble.

Excelsior Hotel Gallia features 235 luxurious guest rooms, including 53 suites. The 1,000sqm Katara Suite – one of the largest Presidential Suites in Italy – is situated on the seventh floor, offering two terraces, four bedrooms and a private spa. The two-bedroom Gallia Suite mimics a sophisticated private residence with its beautiful loggia surrounded by historical columns and statues. The other 51 suites revolve around five distinct themes: Design Suites, dedicated to a renowned Milanese designer or architect, namely Vico Magistretti, Achille Castiglioni, Giò Ponti, Luigi Caccia Dominioni and Franco Albini; Art Suites, which overlook the square and feature a large sliding panel with photos of the hotel’s historic façade; and Atelier Suites, evoking the ambiance of creative workshops. Earlier this month saw the completion of the £2.4 million nautical revamp of the bedrooms inside the Shoreline hotel at the Butlin’s Bognor Regis resort in West Sussex, as part of the brand’s ongoing investment in providing a high quality, value for money short break experience for families.The Shoreline hotel, which marked the step-change Butlin’s took in transitioning from traditional chalet accommodation to bespoke hotels, has undergone a full internal refurbishment of the accommodation under the skilful eye of Newman Gauge, a commercial interior design consultancy, specialising in leisure and hospitality.

“The Shoreline hotel refurbishment has been a really exciting process for Newman Gauge” says Sam Stokoe, Project Design Lead, Newman Gauge who led the Interior Design when the hotel was originally built back in 2005.

“It is great to get the opportunity to create a clearer theme and add more personality and character to the spaces that you have already created; of all 3 hotels we’ve developed for Butlin’s over the last ten years, this one has the best location for waking up and watching the changing sea.”

The new nautical concept evolved from the original ocean liner shape of the architecture and the buildings close proximity to the sea. Newman Gauge developed the 160 bedroom nautical accommodation with the marketing team at Butlin’s to evoke a sense of being aboard a ship with colourful cabins leading off deck-themed corridors.

JW Marriott Washington, DC, owned by Host Hotels & Resorts, has recently unveiled the multi-million dollar redesign of its 750 guest rooms, corridors, and executive lounge. The renovation gives the property an updated and sophisticated look synonymous with the JW Marriott brand design ethos and aesthetic.“Our new room design was inspired by guest feedback,” said Mr. Satinder Palta, General Manager, JW Marriott Washington, DC. “Guests asked for a refined yet, welcoming space for work and relaxation, and we have delivered that and more. Although we are making changes to our design aesthetic, our landmark location and the exceptional service that our guests have come to expect will not change.”

In order to keep guests informed of JW Marriott Washington, DC’s luxury evolution, the hotel enlisted its front desk manager, Anthony, to be the renovation liaison. Intended to enhance and elevate the guest experience, the new distinguished rooms were inspired by the bespoke nature of a beautifully tailored suit. Guests will experience a calming color palate of deep chocolate, charcoal and pearl grey with small accents of pink and chrome reminiscent of a stylish pocket square and men’s watch. Guests will also notice the textures of tweed, leather and herringbone stitching, as well as subtle patterns of Greek keys and paisley often seen on men’s neckties.

JW Marriott Washington, DC’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and energy conservation is also reflected in the renovation. The hotel updated all of the guest rooms with energy efficient A/C units and LED light bulbs, reducing guest room energy consumption.

The guestrooms feature upgraded Wi-Fi, swivel mounted 48” HDTVs and convenient USB ports for guests to plug-in their own mobile devices. The well-appointed bathrooms, with JW Marriott custom bath amenities from Aromatherapy Associates, feature illuminated mirrors, sliding doors, and spa-like showers with a discrete shave pedestal. The 152-roomed boutique hotel will feature seamless design geared toward business and leisure travelers of the tech-forward generation.Inspired by San Francisco’s iconic cable car system, the Axiom Hotel will pull architectural and technological inspiration from the Bay Area. Owned by Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. and managed by Kokua Hospitality, LLC., the Axiom team brought on Stonehill & Taylor to bring their vision of a seamless guest experience to life. Through design inspired by the pulsing energy of San Francisco, Stonehill & Taylor will create an experience where history meets the digital revolution.

Providing guests with a smooth experience to satisfy their digital lifestyle needs, Stonehill & Taylor have created distinctive lighting, technological advancements, and innovative artwork throughout the property. Guests will enter the hotel through a hidden tunnel of light in the hallway where they will be greeted with a one-of-a-kind chandelier. The Grand Hyatt brand has announced that it will add a new resort, Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen Resort, to its world-class portfolio when the hotel opens on the Riviera Maya along the Caribbean Sea on June 15, 2015.The 314-room Sordo Madaleno-designed urban beach hotel will boast a unique fusion of sleek and contemporary design aesthetics blended with Mayan-inspired elements in the guestrooms, restaurants, bars, lounges and event spaces that pay tribute to local surroundings. Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen Resort will have a coveted location on the iconic Mamitas Beach, in the heart of Playa del Carmen, just steps from the city’s famous 5th Avenue.

111 Bathroom Refurbishment at The Ampersand, London

The Ampersand, a 111-bedroom luxury boutique hotel in the heart of London, was recently the subject of a painstaking and intricate refurbishment. Dexter Moren worked with Crosswater to design bespoke brassware solutions. This included bespoke tap spouts and engraved shower plates to make it simple for guests to operate the luxury showers.

Dexter Moren chose fittings from the vast Mike Pro range, which also benefits from WRAS compliance, ensuring speedy sign off by the water undertaker.

Whilst Mike Pro is usually fitted in ultra-modern apartment projects, the collection proved itself to be equally at home in the Art Deco theme throughout the bathrooms.

Each of its 5 villages is set in forest surroundings, typically 400 acres in size. Woburn Forest, the latest addition opened in June 2014, winning Best Hotel and Tourism Resort at the MIPIM Awards in 2015.The excellent guest feedback scores and consistently high levels of returning guests is a reflection of the investment in ensuring high quality accommodation and facilities, which cater for the most discerning of families.

So, when it comes to wallcovering it’s essential that not only does the colour and design work, but also that it can withstand high numbers of visiting families and still look welcoming. Newmor digitally printed each panel on a non-woven graphite base with UV cured inks, delivering outstanding durability. Everything was printed to specific wall sizes and locations to allow easy installation and a perfect backdrop for guests. Newmor Wallcoverings is delighted to have supplied all five Center Parc villages.

Bespoke Skopos Fabrics for Butlin’s Minehead

The Butlin’s site at Minehead is one of three Butlin’s holiday resorts across the UK. The Butlin’s brand, established almost 80 years, has become a well-known British Institution. Now owned by Bourne Leisure, Butlin’s Minehead, the largest of the three resorts, was the third camp to open in 1962. With a requirement to improve the perception of accommodation at Butlin’s, they embarked on a high investment project to redesign the chalets set within a new Lakeside village at its resort in Minehead, Somerset.Brief:
Officially opened in May 2015, the brief for the Lakeside chalets was to provide an environment which remained loyal to the history of the traditional chalet but with a 21st century, modern feel. Architecture by Allison Pike, Butlin’s wanted to furnish the interiors with prints and designs evoking memories of the ‘Butlin’s British seaside, to emphasise the heritage of the ‘family holiday’. Colours needed to be bright, cheerful, (without being overwhelming) and the new design unique to the Butlin’s brand. The Butlin’s iconic logo was a key part of the brief and needed to be evident in the design.

Outcome:
Fusion by Design worked with Skopos and the Butlin’s team to develop a bespoke printed design for curtains and wardrobe backs, with the print of a small graphic Butlin’s yacht, bearing the Butlin’s ‘B’. The yachts were seen as a fitting icon for the lakeside accommodation, symbolising freedom and relaxation. The design was inspired by a forum post of a bygone memory of the curtains in the original Butlin’s chalets, featuring a quaint yacht scene. Retro tones, inspired by nostalgic photos and advertisements from Butlin’s golden era, have been mixed with bright complimentary colours. Skopos’ Peru fabric was used as a colourful highlight.

Branding on the cushion and bed-throw fabric was inspired by Billy’s original chalets, which welcomed guests with branded bedding using the ‘B’, demonstrating pride in the brand and gaining him a reputation for his attention to detail.

Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas

Costing some $940 million, Anthem of the Seas is the second of the Quantum class ships built by Royal Caribbean Cruise International (RCCI), extending their fleet to 23 and providing a true next-generation experience for the ever expanding cruise market.

The 168,666 GRT Anthem of the Seas is 1,141 feet in length, 136 feet wide, can cruise at 22 knots and carry in comfort some 4,905 passengers in 2,090 state rooms with 1,500 crew members to look after them. The ship has 18 decks, 16 passenger elevators, 22 restaurants and bars, 5 designer retail outlets and a huge range of leisure activities on-board. She will spend the summer season of 2015 sailing from Southampton to Mediterranean destinations before relocating to her home port of Cape Liberty Cruise Port, Bayonne, New Jersey to sail the Caribbean.
HotelDesigns joined the ship for a pre-inaugural cruise on 18th April 2015. The Anthem of the Seas is an impressive sight at the quay side, and with towering stacks and the North Star viewing platform easily the tallest structure in town at around 72 metres. Receptionists use mobile tablets and if the passenger has been through the Set Sail RCCI self-check-in on their computer and submitted a photograph kerbside to stateroom takes ten minutes.

The ship is boarded through deck three and passengers sweep up sumptuously carpeted stairs to the Royal Esplanade (the centre of ship life), an area that runs from one end of the ship to the other hosting shops, cafes and restaurants and connecting the two elevator lobbies.

Staterooms
The Anthem of the Seas has 2,090 staterooms of various sizes and levels of comfort. There are 1,571 balcony staterooms, 148 outside staterooms with no balcony. The 375 inside staterooms have floor-to-ceiling HD screens allowing a live camera feed of the sea, Royal Caribbean calling this concept a ‘Virtual Balcony’. There staterooms with wheelchair access, 34 staterooms having wider doors and more space. There are family rooms, 16 being reconfigurable interconnected family staterooms as well as single staterooms offerings with outside balconies.

At the top of the scale are the suites with additional facilities such as whirlpool baths, full round bathtubs, personal libraries, HD entertainment area, full concierge service, baby grand piano, personal dining service, personal cocktail bar, spa and massage service, indoor and outdoor dining areas. To give some idea of stateroom sizes the Owners loft suite is 975 square feet with three balcony areas of around 500 square feet.

The standard décor is modern and well-designed with a family room having light wood multi-functional furniture, shelves underneath the large round dressing mirror. Thoughtful design was evidenced by a handle on the back rail of the vanity chair to allow it to be pulled out with ease.

Other additions to make travelling easier include USB sockets for charging phones and tablets, with US and European sockets. There was also a 40 inch flat screen television with fully interactive guest services, messaging, mobile device registration and movies on-demand. A TCMF was provided on a small tray in the sitting area, but only an addition for the UK market.

The family room bathrooms had small rectangular butler design sinks with shelves all around the rectangular mirror and plenty of lower shelf space for storage by the side of the toilet. The shower was very large by cruise ship standards with a curved glass hinged door and was hot and powerful at all times.

New life for Northumberland hotel

A landmark Northumberland hotel is to get a new lease of life, after been bought by a leading North East leisure operator.

The 27 bedroom Percy Arms Hotel at Otterburn has been taken over by Duncan Fisher and his award-winning Northumberland leisure company, Newton Hall Northumberland Ltd.The company, which owns leading wedding venue Newton Hall and the Joiners’ Arms at Newton-by-the-Sea, is planning to turn the hotel into a stunning wedding venue along with creating a new village pub.

And now Mr Fisher has pledged to make a “substantial investment” into the hotel, creating around 50 new jobs.
“We already have 73 employees at Newton-by-the Sea who work at our other sites,” said Duncan, who also heads up The Apartment Group, which owns a range of restaurants and bars across the North East.

“And we will be creating a range of new jobs once the work on The Percy Arms is complete, employing completely from the local area as we have done at our other Northumberland venues.”

He added that jobs would be available for “people in their teens up to their 70s” and that “there would be a range of opportunities for people with and without previous experience.”

“We are going to create somewhere unique but with real rustic charm and we are sure everyone will be excited when they see the fantastic plans we have,” said Duncan.

“We know a lot of people in the immediate area were very upset when the hotel closed so hopefully the fact we are going to turn it into a really spectacular location will show our continued commitment to Northumberland.”

The hotel has been closed since 2012 when it went into liquidation and the plan is now to start work almost immediately bringing it up to scratch, with the aim of reopening at the end of the year.

The existing venues in Northumberland have won national acclaim, with Newton Hall winning two national wedding venue awards and The Joiners Arms becoming the first and only coaching inn in the county to be awarded five stars by Visit England.

“Anyone who has visited our other venues knows how high our standards are and they’ll see those same standards at The Percy Arms,” said Duncan.

“There is certainly a great deal of interest in the hotel. We have only just taken it over and we’ve already had a number of enquiries for weddings.”

The sale was handled by hotel leisure specialists, Christie + Co, acting on behalf of insolvency practitioners Begbies Traynor.

The sale was handled by Christine + Co director, Mark Worley who said that there had been a great deal of interest in the site in recent years but that “the scale of investment required to restore and upgrade the site, has put off the vast majority of potential buyers.”

“The Percy Arms is such an iconic building which plays an important part in Otterburn,” he said.

“We are delighted that we have found a buyer who will not only restore and improve the building, but someone who will invest on such a scale and with such style and taste, that the village will once again have a venue to be proud of.”

Financial Performance
Our new Travelodge strategy to improve quality levels and drive effective yield management is delivering strong results, with significant outperformance of our market segment.

2014 RevPar was up 16.8% to £34.24, outperforming the Smith Travel Research Midscale and Economy Sector growth for the same period of 12.3%.
Substantial improvements in our room product fuelled significant growth from business customers and these trends, together with effective yield management led to a 15.1% increase in our average room rates to £45.33 (2013: £39.38). Occupancy was also up by 1.0 percentage point, to 75.5% (2013: 74.5%).

Growth was particularly strong in the UK regions, where the economic recovery gathers pace and we continue to outperform.

Total revenues were up 14.9% to £497.2m. With costs tightly controlled, 2014 EBITDA was up 63.5% to £66.2m.

Our strong momentum and outperformance continued into the first quarter of 2015.
For the 12 months to the end of Q1 2015, EBITDA increased to £77.3m.

Operational Review
We have made excellent progress on the ‘new Travelodge’ strategy set out in 2013.

Encouraged by the early returns from our modernisation programme, we took the decision in early 2014 to accelerate the roll-out of our new-look room design and to install the new Travelodge Dreamer® beds in every UK hotel by October 2014.

90% of UK rooms now feature the new look and feel. Customer feedback has been excellent, with a Trip Advisor score of 4 out of 5 stars at our modernised hotels.

We commenced our first advertising campaign for 4 years in mid-2014 to reinvigorate our brand, which is one of the best known in the UK with 90.5% recognition. Our strong direct distribution model, with almost 80% of reservations made online direct with Travelodge, led to almost 1 million visits to the website every week.

We opened five new hotels (515 rooms) in 2014 and closed the year with 38,430 rooms across the UK, Spain and Ireland.

We expect to open fifteen new hotels with a further 1,300 rooms in 2015.

The new hotels for 2015 include London locations at Wembley (opened in February), Richmond and Greenwich; a new central Glasgow property and key regional locations including the Thames Valley tech corridor, Southampton (opened in March) and Bristol.

We have identified potential for more than 250 further hotels across the UK, with the new hotels expected to support the creation of more than 3,000 new jobs.

Secondary market sales for Travelodge hotels have been strong and our shareholders acquired 144 Travelodge hotels from independent landlords during 2014.

Carlson Rezidor announces the Radisson Red Hotel V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, South Africa

Carlson Rezidor announces the very first Radisson Red in Europe, the Middle East and Africa: the group’s new upscale lifestyle select brand launches in Cape Town, South Africa. The Radisson Red Hotel V&A Waterfront will open in late 2016 and be located at the V&A Waterfront, with 24 million visitors per annum one of Africa’s most visited cultural and historical hubs. The Radisson Red Hotel V&A Waterfront will form part of the new “Silo District” of the V&A Waterfront that will also be home to the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA). Designed by Thomas Heatherwick of Heatherwick Studio in London, the museum is scheduled to open in late 2016. The founding collection is that of German businessman Jochen Zeitz, gifted in perpetuity to the museum. Art connoisseurs already place MOCAA in the same category as the Metropolitan Museum in New York.

Besides 235 guest rooms which include Studios, Studio 4’s and Studio Sweets, the Radisson Red will offer a “Redeli” and a “Ouibar” where tempting taster plates, wine & beer and bottled cocktails will be available 24/7. Business travellers will benefit from 5 meeting event studios with an area of 460sqm. Qatar Airways Acquires The Novotel Edinburgh Park

Qatar Airways has acquired the Novotel Edinburgh Park Hotel in Scotland, one of the best-located hotels for travellers to Edinburgh and an excellent base for exploring the rest of Scotland. The hotel will continue to be managed and operated under the Novotel brand by Accor which operates more than 3,700 quality hotels worldwide.The Novotel Edinburgh Park marks the second hotel acquisition by Qatar Airways outside of Qatar, where it owns the five-star Oryx Rotana Hotel in Doha and runs the new airside Hamad International Airport Hotel. The first acquisition, earlier this year, was the Sheraton Skyline Hotel at Heathrow Airport in London.

The Novotel Edinburgh Park, a four-star property located on Lochside Avenue, adjacent to the Edinburgh Business Park, and conveniently located near to Edinburgh International Airport, has a direct tram link to both the airport as well as Edinburgh city centre. The Hotel is on the doorstep of Edinburgh Business Park, widely acknowledged as Scotland’s premier business park, which currently boasts 7,000 employees in blue chip companies, making the hotel the ideal stay for business travellers, and attendees at business events and conferences, as well as tourists, due to its easy access to the highway network, tram and train stations. The hotel is within 15 minutes of the airport and 25 minutes of the city centre by tram.

The hotel offers 170 high quality rooms and suites; five purpose-designed, fully equipped and flexible meeting rooms for up to 170 people theatre style; an indoor pool, gym, and sauna; and food and beverage offerings. The purchase of the Novotel Edinburgh Park is part of that overall service offering and growth strategy, which is expected to include further hotels in key destinations.

The Middle East’s First Delano Hotel to Debut in Dubai

Morgans Hotel Group Co., has recently announced its partnership with IFA Hotels & Resorts (IFA HR) to bring the Delano brand to the Middle East with Delano Dubai. Scheduled to open in 2017 as the third hotel in the Delano portfolio, Delano Dubai’s 110-key deluxe hotel apartment property will be situated on Palm Jumeirah and will form part of a contemporary mixed-used resort development known as The8.“Dubai is an ideal destination for us to debut our first Delano property in the Middle East,” said Jason Kalisman, Interim CEO of Morgans Hotel Group. “The location and resort concept speaks to the Delano guest experience of providing an oasis of sensuality and soul, and where sophistication and ease seamlessly blend with timeless design. The 110 distinctive apartments will include one, two, and three bedroom units with furnishings and fittings curated to the highest standards as well as a unique Presidential Suite. The8 is currently under construction and will feature both the Delano-branded hotel apartments, as well as other stand-alone residential properties offering diverse facilities and entertainment. IFA Hotel Investments (IFA HI) will oversee the asset management and operational aspect of the development. Launched in 2014, The8 has been architecturally designed as ultra-sleek and modern, drawing inspiration from the fashion, design, and lifestyle elements of Miami’s South Beach. The8 will contain resort-style facilities including extensive water-sports, a gym, tennis courts, a signature beachfront restaurant, beach cabanas, barbecue and event areas, as well as dedicated amenities for young families.

Worldhotels expands in Europe and Asia

Worldhotels has welcomed seven new hotels to its global portfolio in the first quarter of 2015. The new additions are comprised of five hotels in Europe and two in Asia – and include hotels in new Worldhotels destinations. In order to become part of the global Worldhotels portfolio, the hotels must meet the group’s high quality standards. In addition, applicants have to fit the strategic objectives of Worldhotels.

“We are strategically developing our portfolio to add new key destinations and reinforce destinations with high potential”, says Geoff Andrew, Chief Operating Officer at Worldhotels. “At our size, we need to carefully consider how we grow our portfolio. Our development strategy has to reflect our focus on quality over quantity.”

The Lime Tree Spa at Milford Hall Hotel

A ‘Boutique Spa’ by definition sets a level of expectation that it will be compact and bijou. When you arrive at Milford Hall Hotel you could be forgiven for driving past the understated brick building with traditional wooden doors that was originally a garage and workshop. Pass the mini patio with tables and chairs, set invitingly in front of a spectacular wall of ivy. The ivy is artificial – an imaginative solution for creating a feature where you have a wall that is in need of a little clever disguise. But follow the attractive brick pathway through a wrought iron gate you are transported into a spa that is far from bijou in stature and feel. The solid double doors with striking textured handles, tell a story about this spa that is a treat for the senses.

Using a selection of textures on the walls, flooring and careful choice of furniture, Spa Creators are the Spa Consultants behind this spa that has ingeniously used every possible space to turn this building into a ‘Spa Tardis’ with a Euro Asian fusion that gives it a contemporary and relaxed feel.

The Lime Tree Spa has three treatment rooms, a manicure station, a generous size sauna, a bronze mosaic tiled experience shower and four ceramic sculpted heated loungers in a room with fully bi-folding doors that enjoy the view of an attractively sheltered outdoor hot tub and patio area with more tables and chairs for relaxation.

This spa feels considerably more airy, open and well-appointed in comparison to many other larger spas.

Follow the glass and wooden balustrade staircase up to a mezzanine that houses a treatment room with a relaxation area complete with two sofas, two chairs and a pair of hot pink chaise longue that sit either side of a window that frames the spas very own Lime Tree.

Downstairs, the wall of the corridor that leads to the fully equipped gym from Mattrix and the second and third treatment rooms is clad with Muraspec ocean wave moulded panel reminiscent of ripples in the sand.

Crown Sports Lockers created the changing room lockers. Each of the three treatment rooms is wall papered with different neutral tones of cream, bronze and silver respectively with a lime tree design.

The luxurious treatment beds from Ellisons are finished with pebble coloured luxury towels and matching pebble coloured fleecy blankets embroidered with the Lime Tree Spa logo. The white waffle ‘Healthy’ bathrobes are also embroidered with the Lime Tree Spa logo (all supplied by BC Softwear).

Spa Creators and the team at The Lime Tree Spa created the menu of treatments using brand Caudalie, with a wide range of luxurious vineyard themed treatments that fit well with the Euro Asian theme.

New look at Mercure Bristol North, The Grange Hotel

Mercure Bristol North, The Grange Hotel has undergone a major investment, transforming the 19th century manor house. The extensive refurbishment includes the renovation of the hotel’s ground floor including the restaurant, bar, lounge and reception area as well as the redesign of the hotel’s largest event space, The Park Suite, to provide the ideal setting to cater for all occasions.The stunning Bath stone manor house, located in a peaceful pocket of North Bristol countryside, will unveil its new look at an official opening on May 15. As part of the refurbishment the hotel will present a brand new image, which includes new lighting, carpets and drapes plus a brand new sophisticated colour scheme. Creating a stylish and contemporary feel, the hotel retains its historical features and uses current colours and fabrics to give a modern day style.

Interior designer Helen Hooper of HH Interiors, who has previously worked with Jupiter Hotels on renovation projects across the UK, comments on the project: “Throughout the public areas of the hotel, the interior fuses contemporary fabrics and colours with traditional period features and detail. There are bespoke touches throughout the design. The fabrics are luxurious and sumptuous in elegant colours with a mixture of fine textures to create a relaxed ambience. We wanted to embrace and treasure locally inspired touches such as art work commissioned by local artists, which is on display throughout the hotel.”

The investment also includes the redesign of The Park Suite, to provide the perfect location for any event or wedding. With large French doors, which open onto the courtyard to overlook the picturesque landscaped gardens, the magnificent suite, which can accommodate up to 160 guests for a wedding reception, offers the perfect backdrop.
