MEININGER Hotels has opened its fifth hotel in Berlin. The new building, which has 245 rooms and 833 beds, is well-located right next to East Side Gallery and Ostbahnhof.

The design of each MEININGER hotel is based on an individual theme, and this hotel was inspired by the immediate proximity to the former border wall separating East and West Berlin, the East Side Gallery. The phrase “be united” is realised in every room of the hotel, with concrete walls, long tables and graffiti reflecting the history of the wall and the reunification, as well as the philosophy of MEININGER Hotels. “Every day, guests from all over the world meet here and exchange views in a relaxed atmosphere in the guest kitchen, game zone, lobby, lounge and bar,” says Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER Hotels.

MEININGER Hotel Berlin East Side Gallery - Bar areaIn the public areas of the MEININGER Hotel Berlin East Side Gallery, two long tables serve as a connecting element between different areas of the hotel. Opposite the bar, the text “be united” illuminates the room on a concrete wall. The modern, straightforward design is punctuated by colourful highlights.

On the way to the rooms, the guests come across interesting quotes about the reunification and togetherness. In the cosy rooms, modern graffiti reflects the theme. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide a perfect view of vibrant Berlin as well as the nearby quarter. The room types range from classic double rooms and private multi-bed rooms, through to a bed in a dormitory. The hotel also offers superior rooms on the upper floors of the building. “Also in this new hotel, we expect the typical mix of guest types including groups, families, backpackers, business and leisure travellers, which makes MEININGER so unique”, says Hannes Spanring.

Thanks to its excellent location and convenient public transport links, the MEININGER Hotel Berlin East Side Gallery is the perfect base to explore the whole city, with the trendy districts Mitte and Kreuzberg only a few minutes away. The East Side Gallery and Oberbaumbrücke are also within walking distance of the hotel. The proximity to the Ostbahnhof, which can be reached in a two-minute walk, guarantees a comfortable journey. For guests arriving by car, the hotel offers 17 parking spaces in the underground car park.

MEININGER Hotel Berlin East Side Gallery - BedroomThe opening of the MEININGER Hotel at the East Side Gallery is the beginning of a series of openings that will follow in the next nine months. By September next year, MEININGER will open eight more hotels across Europe including another one in Berlin. “Berlin is an important location for us, and we are keen to open more hotels here. A sixth MEININGER hotel is already under development, in Turmstrasse in Moabit. It will welcome its first guests in the summer of next year”, says Hannes Spanring.

MEININGER continues to expand. A total of 16 new hotels are already planned. Although the focus is on Europe, opportunities in North America and South Asia are being examined in the search of further projects. Currently the MEININGER Group operates 18 hotels in Europe with 2,712 rooms and 9,242 beds in total.
