Combining textures and colours at London design aparthotel slated to open this September

Rockwell East is a new 57-key aparthotel owned by London-based property developers Marldon and designed by Waldo Works with deliberate clashes of textures and bold colours..

Located on the fringes of London’s city centre, Rockwell East is a 57-key aparthotel the ideal destination for travellers who are staying in town for one night or several months. Apartments at Rockwell East are spacious and have all the features of a design-led modern home, with strong colours and textures injected into their interiors.

Accommodation ranges from Studio Apartments to One Bedroom and Family Apartments. The base palette for the rooms is inspired by the patterns and colours of the sky. A theme that is offset by deep inky blues and highlighted by accents and colours that are tailored to each space.

Each apartment has a fully fitted kitchen, free Wi-fi, a dishwasher, washing machine/dryer, safe, Air-conditioning, an HDTV, Merino wool blankets, Egyptian cotton sheets, towelling dressing gowns, soaps and lotions by the White Company, a Nespresso Coffee machine and a welcome breakfast pack by Abel and Cole.

Burgundy, yellows, sepia and brandy tones give a warm aesthetic to the café. Divided into separate areas by soft velvet banquettes, the space also features black steel chairs and lighting, soft cork upholstery and lightly brushed brass for the bar and other dining areas. Offering modern European dining, with classic favourites, the café will focus on good, fresh food and feature a wine menu curated by renowned merchants Goedhuis & Co.

Renowned designers Waldo Works have taken inspiration from the passage of time, night and day, sun and moon throughout the interiors, establishing a restful rhythm for guests. The aparthotel has a strong sense of design and space, while remaining calm and comfortable.

Artist Fergus Hare has been commissioned to present the art throughout the aparthotel, focusing on landscape and skies at peculiar times of the day or from curious perspectives, to create intriguing and beguiling imagery.

Airbnb rival Altovita could be set for London

The rental site Altovita emerging as a competitor to Airbnb could be making its way to London next year, after getting the green light to operate in eastern Europe.

The short-term holiday rental site was launched in July and has already expanded to more than 200 listings across Prague, Budapest, Vienna and Warsaw with a USP that means all properties have been personally inspected and given quality ratings by its staff.

Now the site has been given the stamp of approval in Eastern Europe, with co-founder Alison Ip saying there are another ‘100 or so’ listings in the pipeline, with the ambition to reach 500 by the first quarter of 2018.

The company is headquartered in London and says that the UK capital is in its ‘expansion plans’. Ip added: “We’ll consider coming to London as a city, potentially in the next six to 12 months.”

It will bring another rival in the short-term rental industry, which has been largely dominated by the likes of Airbnb, but Ms Ip – a former UBS investment bank director – says Altovita is trying to make up for a lack of quality assurance.

“The sharing economy is becoming increasingly popular and yet there is no standard of quality for this sector – unlike in the hotel sector, which is very well defined in a five-star rating system that applies across the world and has done so for decades,” she said.

“Some of the poorer properties have fallen through the cracks and effectively frustrated a lot of the customers who effectively loved this model.”

Cachet Hotel Group has announced the signing of a management agreement with real estate developer Wuhan King Land Co. Ltd. for the dual-branded Cachet Hotel Apartments and URBN Boutique Hotel in Wuhan, China.

Set in the economic, cultural and transportation hub of Central China, the dual-branded property will include 196 rooms, multiple restaurants, and social gathering spaces. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2018 and marks CHG’s first dual-branded project in Wuhan.

Four Seasons Hotel and private residences announced for Montreal

A new 163-room Four Seasons hotel and private residential complex is going to be built on Montreal’s de la Montagne St, Quebec property developer Carbonleo has announced.

The $250 million (£145 million) project, already under construction on the long-vacant site, will include 18 “exclusive private residences,” three restaurants and a 6,000-square-foot ballroom and be directly connected to the Ogilvy department store on Ste-Catherine St., itself getting a $60-million expansion and rebranding by owner Holt Renfrew & Co.

Part of the hotel project will be atop the 220,000-square-foot Holt/Ogilvy retail complex.

“Montrealers have been waiting to see how De la Montagne St. would evolve and we’re very proud to be part of this unique project while contributing to the revitalization of this downtown area,” said Andrew Lutfy, chairman of the board of Carbonleo. “This will become an exciting lifestyle and dining epicentre for both Montrealers and visitors.”

Scheduled completion date for the hotel is the end of 2018.

The Arjaan Hotel Apartments by Rotana property, in Marrakech will have 140 keys and be located at M Avenue, the new shopping, entertainment and residential destination in Marrakech.

Catering to both business and leisure travellers, the property will feature modern facilities including three dining outlets, meeting rooms, conference and banquet halls, wireless internet access, a swimming pool, and a fitness studio.

Luxury Edinburgh hotel The Chester Residence to undergo £1m refurbishment

Luxury, five-star Edinburgh hotel, The Chester Residence, is undergoing a £1 million refurbishment.

The refurbishment is being carried out by Aberdeen-based firms Ambiance Interior Design and Bentleys, a bespoke joinery manufacturer and interior fit out specialist, and is due to be completed in May 2016.

Many apartments will be newly decorated with chic, contemporary décor including accent patterns with geometric prints to complement the current more muted palette. A combination of Elitis and Armani Casa wallpapers have been specially chosen by leading interior designer Karen McKimmie, and key furnishings will be updated with luxury fabric from companies such as Mulberry Home. The technology upgrade includes faster Wi-Fi, and new 55-inch Smart TVs. Blu-ray DVD players will also be standard throughout. Aberdeen social enterprise company Glencraft are supplying new luxury beds throughout the hotel.

Owner of The Chester Residence, Graham Wood, said: “Maintaining a first class product and creating that ‘wow’ factor for guests when they arrive is key to ensuring an enjoyable stay. Great service needs to be complemented with impressive, yet comfortable surroundings if we are to maintain our number one position in Edinburgh, as voted by our guests on Tripadvisor.

“We use only the highest quality suppliers and try to source local products and tradespeople where possible.”

Designer Karen McKimmie, said: “The feedback we received from guests is that they really enjoy the essence of what The Chester Residence is, so we wanted to update the apartments without compromising that. The refurbishment is due to finish at the end of May 2016 and the hotel remains open throughout.

Major refurbishment for Edinburgh’s Princes Street Suites

A major refurbishment project will soon get underway at a serviced apartment complex in the heart of Scotland’s capital city.

Princes Street Suites will undergo a £350,000 makeover over the coming weeks, with each apartment given new décor and furniture.

Each of the building’s 37 apartments will be fitted with new furnishings. New bathrooms, carpets and artwork will also be installed across the apartments, which are managed by the UK’s largest independent hotel management company, Redefine|BDL Hotels.

The refurbishment will be the first major project undertaken by Princes Street Suites’ new General Manager, Fiona Mackenzie (pictured above), who took over the role last July. The work is expected to be completed by the end of March this year.
