As summer comes to a close, the cosy winter months close in. With this in mind, Hotel Designs profiles five of our favourite country house hotels across the UK…

Gravetye Manor, Sussex
“The 17 bedrooms and suites at Gravetye Manor in East Grinstead are named after tree species found on the estate. Rich fabrics, fine antiques and hand crafted beds emphasise the classical beauty of the interiors, whilst floral themes bring the garden into the manor. All our rooms are individually furnished, providing the highest standards of comfort and are all equipped with flat screen televisions and iPod docking stations.” (Image: www.gravetyemanor.co.uk)

Chewton Glen, Hampshire

“Chewton Glen is a quintessentially English, privately owned luxury Country House Hotel & Spa on the fringe of the New Forest. With some of England’s most stunning countryside rolling up around us and the calmness of the sea just moments away, Chewton Glen is an idyllic escape. You wouldn’t know we’re a mere two hours from London, easily reached by rail, air and road when you’re here, in such a tranquil setting. Christchurch, Bournemouth and Southampton are also nearby.” (Image: www.chewtonglen.com)

However, guests quickly discover that behind the imposing grandeur of Luton Hoo, the atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming…” (Main Image Top: www.lutonhoo.co.uk)
