Join us at the Hotel Summit this summer and you’ll get exclusive insights into Trivago’s consumer insights research.

The Hotel Summit is the hotel industry’s premier face-to-face networking event, where industry suppliers and buyers converge for a series of highly productive meetings. This year the event will be held at the Radisson Blu, London Stansted on June 4th – 5th. Click here for all the details

As well as providing event goers with the opportunity to meet, face-to-face to discuss their requirements and projects, the Summit will host a series of informative seminar sessions designed to give superlative take-home tips and ideas.

This year’s keynote session is being presented by Aly Thompson, Regional Industry Manager at Trivago. The presentation, ‘Trivago Industry Insights: UK regional data highlights’, will provide data insights about visitors to the UK to reveal travellers’ online behaviour and preferences, and help hoteliers target hotel marketing efforts and drive more hotel bookings.

  • Where do travellers to the UK come from?
  • What types of travellers are they?
  • How does seasonality affect their price and booking preferences?
  • How does traveller behaviour differ from region to region?
  • How can hoteliers harness these insights for a better online marketing strategy?

As we announced last week, Trivago are also supporting the Hotel Summit as our drinks reception partner.

Other sessions to look forward to whilst at the Summit include;

  • Procurement: Frustration or facilitation? – by Tony Morris, GSK
  • More direct bookings: How my hotel does 96% direct bookings – by Adam Hamadache, Direct Hotel Marketing
  • Why the hotel sector needs an evolving digital marketing approach – by John Heffernan, Red Live Media

trivago Awards 2018: This year’s top-rated hotels in the UK

847 419 Guest Blog

trivago has reviewed the data and tallied the scores, and it’s time to reveal the hotels that travellers consider to be the very best — the winners of the trivago Awards 2018.

The trivago Awards give hoteliers the chance to receive recognition for their hard work and dedication to providing exemplary guest experiences, and to highlight and publicise this achievement to a world of travellers. In discussing the Awards, Johannes Thomas, Managing Director at trivago NV, said: “As an independent source of hotel information with data on over 175 million guest reviews, we are well-positioned to identify the top-rated hotels that excel at delivering exceptional guest experiences. The trivago Awards give us the chance to recognise and honour the hard-working hoteliers behind these exemplary hotels, and we are thrilled to do so again this year.”

All winning hotels receive exclusive award-indicators (certificates to put on display, widgets for their websites and social media pages, and more) that can increase their visibility and guest appeal online and offline. And the single top hotel in each category also gets to take home a coveted trivago Awards trophy along with a winner’s badge for their hotel profile.

trivago applauds all the winning hotels for offering top-notch, top-rated guest experiences. So, without further ado, let’s find out who the national winners in the United Kingdom are…

The top-rated hotels with the best value for money
This year, the best value for money in the UK can be found at St Michael’s Guest House in Scarborough.

Whatever the season or occasion, family-run Victorian guest house aims to make everyone’s stay enjoyable and relaxing by giving a traditional service. Owners Dee and Glyn had this to say about providing award-winning value: “As trivago is one of the best known and respected international websites that travellers turn to when planning a stay away from home it is a huge honour that we should be associated with them and even more amazing to win an award. We don’t feel that we do anything special here at St Michael’s just be ourselves. We offer clean and comfortable accommodation and a good locally sourced breakfast at reasonable prices. Our main aim is for our guests to feel relaxed in a happy atmosphere; as if they are visiting friends.”

Here are the top-10 recipients of the trivago Awards 2018 in the category of Best Value for Money in the UK:

We’re lucky to be in the most beautiful part of the country and we’ve created a haven of tranquil luxury to match our landscape. We know that the trivago Awards recognise those hoteliers who deliver an exceptional experience to their guests, and that’s what we strive to achieve. Each year we invest in our hotel and in our staff to keep on getting better and better, talking to our guests, listening to our guests, paying attention to the tiny details.”

How does trivago determine the winning hotels?
Just as we aggregate hotel prices from across the web, we also aggregate guest reviews and ratings for a wide variety of amenities and services for all hotels that display prices on trivago. The reviews are then assigned an overall score by amenity or service category using an internally developed algorithm. The overall score is displayed on trivago, making it easy for travellers to compare amenities and services offered as they search for their ideal hotel. For the trivago Awards 2018, the hotel with the highest score in each awarded category is deemed the category winner. To ensure accuracy, a minimum of 20 reviews were required for award eligibility.

trivago creates sales subsidiary to accelerate hotel direct business

750 499 Daniel Fountain

trivago, a leading global hotel metasearch, announces the foundation of trivago Hotel Relations, a new wholly-owned subsidiary that will foster strong direct relationships with independent hotels.

The company will focus on empowering hoteliers around the world to be more competitive online and to drive more direct bookings through their hotel websites.

“With this step we are accelerating our ability to scale an exceptionally skilled international sales force and build stronger ties with hoteliers. It enables us to work even closer with hoteliers and better support them in making their direct marketing successful,” Johannes Thomas, Managing Director and Chief Revenue Officer at trivago NV, said.

He added: “We’ve seen significant success in our hotel direct business over the past two years. At the same time, we learned that scaling a sales organisation requires a different culture, operating mode, and set of talents compared to a technology organisation. We believe that being a dedicated company provides it with the necessary freedom to determine its own identity.”

The different requirements of a tech organisation and those of a sales organisation inspired the decision to set up a dedicated sales subsidiary that can create its own identity, culture, and employer branding: Instead of recruiting engineers, the new company aims to recruit the top sales talents from around the globe.

trivago Hotel Relations, based in Düsseldorf, Germany, will be the entity responsible for trivago’s relationships with over 310,000 hoteliers around the world.

The company starts with over 160 employees from 21 countries and aims to grow its team in 2018. This is intended to accelerate trivago’s efforts in providing travellers with more choices and the option to book direct.

trivago providing hoteliers with travel demand data, over 5 billion room rates

850 425 Daniel Fountain

trivago has now made over 5 billion room rates visible to hoteliers around the world. With its new Rate Insights feature, trivago grants hoteliers access to an unbiased and comprehensive set of data on traveller demand and competitor prices, enabling them to compare room rates from over 250 booking sites as well as official hotel websites on a single dashboard.

Through Rate Insights, which is part of the complete metasearch marketing solution trivago Hotel Manager PRO, trivago is empowering hoteliers to establish competitive pricing strategies.

trivago Business Intelligence data reveals that independent hotels visible on trivago have on average 8,000 rates online a year. Johannes Thomas, Chief Revenue Officer and Managing Director at trivago, said: “We understood how difficult it is for hoteliers to find, monitor, and analyse competitor room rates across hundreds of booking sites.”

He added: “We were quick to realise that the price comparison data we provide to travellers is equally valuable for hoteliers. Therefore, we created a rate shopper that gives hoteliers easy and actionable access to this data, as well as data on traveller search volume that reveals fluctuations in demand. No other rate shopper has this combination of data in this amount and with this granularity.”

Instead of gathering data from just a few booking sites, Rate Insights aggregates rates from over 250 websites and makes it easy for hoteliers to compare them by room type and other variables. It also enables hoteliers to respond quickly to changes in the market and anticipate what upcoming local events can be leveraged to boost RevPAR. Hoteliers overcome the time-consuming challenge of monitoring the market, their competitors’ prices, and their own. They know when and by how much to adjust their direct rates and all those listed with OTA partners to stay competitive online.

“With the Rate Insights feature we’re able to see our competitors’ prices and position ourselves in the market. And the statistics are beneficial when there are sudden changes in the market and we need to adapt accordingly,” said Maximilian Kaufmann, Managing Director, Hotel Alte Krone, Kleinwalsertal, Austria

Utilising data is becoming more and more crucial in making decisions that will lay the foundation for future success. By displaying its rate and traveller demand data on a single dashboard with simple analytics, trivago has made it easier for hoteliers to access, understand, and act on data to increase their competitiveness online.
