A North East hotel is being restored to its former glory following a £200,000 investment. The Three Horseshoes Hotel at Washington Road, Sunderland, was bought by Tavistock Hospitality Ltd in 2015 and quickly transformed into a brewery tap for the company’s Sonnet 43 Brew House based in Coxhoe, County Durham.
Now, the new owners are embarking on the second stage of their plans to fully restore the once popular hotel, with work already underway to refurbish all seven of its upstairs bedrooms.
The boutique bed and breakfast, being created as part of Tavistock’s overall investment in the site, is expected to be completed by mid-May, with fixtures and fittings paying a subtle tribute to Sunderland’s industrial past.
“The Three Horseshoes is in an enviable position, with fantastic road links making it an ideal base for both leisure and business guests,” said Jonathan Graham, Operations Director of Tavistock Hospitality.
“While we focussed our initial efforts on transforming the downstairs area into a bar and restaurant, we are keen to get the entire site operational as soon as possible.
“We are confident that a combination of tailored design, reasonable rates and the availability of high quality food and drink downstairs, will appeal particularly to the corporate market, including those visiting the Nissan site just over the road.”
The Three Horseshoes Hotel, which is now among more than a dozen hotels, bars and restaurants owned by Tavistock Hospitality across the North East.
