InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, has announced the signing of Hotel Indigo® Berlin City – East Side. The new-build hotel will be owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and will operate under a franchise agreement with development agreement (MDA) partner Tristar Hotel Group. This hotel will be the eighth development under IHG’s MDA agreement with Tristar.

Opening during the autumn of 2017, the hotel joins Hotel Indigo® Berlin – Alexanderplatz and Hotel Indigo® Berlin – Ku’damm in Germany’s capital. The property will feature 119 rooms, a gym, a restaurant and a rooftop bar with an outdoor terrace, and is within walking distance of Berlin’s Warschauer Strasse and Ostbahnhof train stations.

Hotel Indigo Berlin City – East Side will be located in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, one of the most creative districts in Berlin, and surrounded by a lively cultural scene and popular entertainment options. The hotel will be part of Mercedes Platz, a complex located opposite the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Mercedes Platz, also owned by AEG, will feature numerous restaurants and bars, a 4,000 capacity event hall and a state-of-the art movie theatre.

Its visitor numbers are projected to reach 20 million annually and the complex will open in 2018. Hotel Indigo Berlin City – East Side is set to become the heart and soul of the dynamically growing urban quarter along the East-Side-Gallery (remains of the Berlin wall).

In 2014 IHG doubled its number of signings in Germany in comparison to 2013, signing twelve contracts with new and existing owner partners. IHG plans to double the number of hotels in Germany either open or in the pipeline over the next five years. IHG currently has the largest active development pipeline in Germany’s branded hotel market with more than 4,400 rooms.
