Work has begun on a £50 million project to create a luxury hotel and apartments in Plymouth, which will take three years.

In December 2016, Henley Real Estate won the right to deliver 1620, a £50m hotel and residential development on Plymouth Hoe on the site of the former Quality Hotel.

Planning permission for the 60-bedroom boutique, spa and ‘panoramic penthouse’ was granted in July 2017 and now builders have started on the transformation that will be completed in 2020 in time for the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower.

The architects for the project are Ellis Williams Architects and now a new milestone for the property has been reached, as officials give the hotel the green light to serve alcohol to guests and locals 24 hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.

Bosses told the panel that their business model is ‘to provide local residents with a high-quality dining experience’.
