Naturalmat launches the Braunton Bed, a modern mid-century approach

Launching this September, Devon-based bed and mattress makers, Naturalmat are delighted to introduce the Braunton bed. Defined by its gently tapered profile and softly-sculpted silhouette, the Braunton draws inspiration from the relaxed glamour of 1970s Italian design…

Its oversized, generously padded headboard, softened with subtle rounded detailing feels both architectural and welcoming. Designed to create a continuous visual line, the bed frame has an effortless sense of movement, with gentle geometry balancing its plush, cloud-like volume. A contemporary reinterpretation of mid-century design, the Braunton is both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.

Equally distinctive are the substantial upholstered base rails, whose extra-deep proportions angle out proudly beyond the mattress to create a beautifully-framed sleeping space, enhancing the bed’s sculptural presence and cocooning the mattress that drops into the base below. Thoughtfully designed with practicality in mind, the Braunton easily disassembles into a headboard, side rails and slats, allowing for easy access through tight stairwells and narrow doorways.

The headboard and bed base are generously filled with Naturalmat’s signature recycled denim, replacing synthetic alternatives such as foam. These repurposed cotton offcuts from the clothing industry are used to create the bed’s softly angled silhouette. Organic wool is also used in the headboard, this breathable natural fibre allows Naturalmat to pass all British fire regulations without the use of chemical fire retardants.

Upholstered in Naturalmat’s Jute Linen, a new house fabric range woven exclusively for Naturalmat in the rolling hills surrounding Lake Como. This rich blend of jute, linen and cotton comes in four colourways and features a subtly ribbed weave.

Having very similar sustainable credentials to that of linen, jute is a coarser, more robust fibre traditionally used for sacks, rope and rugs. Today, its rustic texture and sustainable credentials have made it a fast favourite in modern interior schemes. Paired with the Braunton bed, this earthy fabric brings warmth, depth and character to the bedroom.
