Manchester’s Holiday Inn Express on Oxford Road, which opened its doors for business in September 2010, has won an award for its unique design and received praise for making a positive contribution to the city. Situated on the doorstep of Manchester’s thriving city centre, on the busy Oxford Road corridor, the wedge shaped building has won the Brick Development Association’s award for Best Commercial Building.

The 147-bed hotel, built by Russells Construction, was nominated by Michelmersh Brick Holdings, manufacturer of the Blockleys Smooth Black brick which gives the 12-storey building its characteristic appearance.

Built on a triangular site, the exterior of the contemporary building has been designed to complement the industrial aesthetic of nearby structures, particularly the nearby railway arches of Oxford Road train station.

Jonathan Smith, general manager at Holiday Inn Express Oxford Road, said: “We are so proud that the hotel has received this high recognition for its statement design and hopefully it will become an iconic building in Manchester.

“Staff and partners have worked hard to create a contemporary setting for our guests, offering not only a perfect location, but also a comfortable, relaxed setting for both business and leisure.”
