A hotel in Cambridgeshire, UK, was demolished this week following a fire. The Phoenix hotel in North Brink, Wisbech, a historic part of Cambridgeshire town, caught fire during the early hours of Thursday morning. After the fire was put out it was decided to demolish the remaining building as it was deemed structurally unsafe.

The building had not been used since last August but previously featured 16 en-suite bedrooms. Neighbouring residents were evacuated during the blaze as 56 fire fighters were called to the scene to put out the flames.

One person suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital and no one else was harmed.

The building was built in the 17th century and was well-known for its Chinese restaurant when it was in operation.

It is not yet known what caused the fire but an investigation is being carried out.
