Perfectly situated in Guernsey’s capital St Peter Port, the newly refurbished four-star Duke of Richmond Hotel boasts fantastic views of the harbour and neighbouring islands of Herm and Sark. Following an extensive refurbishment, the hotel needed a finishing touch to ensure its entrance was as impressive as the luxurious boutique interior.Red Carnation Hotels Projects Director Brian Brennan approached Andy Thornton to create a curved entrance canopy, similar in style to one they had previously supplied to another Red Carnation Hotel, Rubens at the Palace in London.
Designed, manufactured and installed by their in-house architectural metalwork team, the impressive canopy is 6m in length with a 1.5m projection. It was manufactured from mild steel and aluminum section with toughened safety glass infill panels.
Andy Thornton incorporated ornate cast cresting detail and elegant spandrel brackets, between decorative corner posts and included a functional rainwater gutter. The structure was pre-treated with a durable coastal specification polyester powder coat prior to delivery and installation.
Installed bang on schedule for the reopening of the hotel, Projects Director Brian Brennan was delighted with the finished structure. Brian commented: “The Andy Thornton Architectural Metalwork Department has delivered another fantastic result. The canopy is a functional, eye-catching feature which has certainly met the brief of creating an impressive entrance for a hotel of this quality.”
