Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels, the luxury hotel group with eight properties in Mauritius, has announced the reopening of Canonnier Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa. French interior designers, Paule de Romeuf and Amélie Montocchio, worked together to ensure that after several months Canonnier’s doors have reopened to reveal a completely transformed resort.

Canonnier boasts commanding views over the northern islands and sparkling Indian Ocean and the Beachcomber team has successfully blended these breathtaking surroundings with the resort’s interiors.

Guests staying at the revamped Canonnier Golf Resort & Spa will enjoy the new rooms draped in soft linen with the natural feel of rattan, wood and raffia that echoes the vegetation and gardens of the resort’s grounds. New lighting in all the rooms reflect Beachcomber’s desire to create harmony between the exterior and interior of the resort, which plays an essential role in creating the resort’s peaceful and serene atmosphere. Guests can rest assured that top quality materials were carefully selected for all aspects of the hotel to respect nature and the environment, as well as ensuring complete comfort and luxury.

At Canonnier there is plenty to explore once guests have settled in to their luxurious rooms. A unique feature of the resort is its wellness centre built in the branches of a 100-year-old banyan tree where therapists soothe both body and mind. Evoking a small tree house, Canonnier’s spa provides an authentic tropical hideaway for guests wishing to escape the stresses of daily life. This haven of peace and relaxation now features a new low stone wall that recalls the lighthouse that once stood in the resort’s tropical gardens, whilst the spa now also includes a sauna, hammam and fitness room. The resort’s swimming pool has also been refurbished to feature mosaic tiles that create a lagoon effect where the water shimmers a sparkling blue-green. For guests seeking a more active holiday, there is a wide range of land and water sports available. From tennis, volleyball and mountain biking to diving and snorkelling, there is something for everyone. The only golf course in the north of the island is also just 700 metres away and offers a very special welcome to hotel guests.

Cannonier’s fantastic transformation reflects the combination of experience and careful thought that has gone into creating a resort that is perfectly balanced between luxury and comfort. With all of these exciting new improvements guests will need to get in quickly to be among the first to experience the revamped resort and to enjoy their own Beachcomber holiday filled with relaxation, indulgence and spectacular surroundings.

The Anam celebrates grand opening end of April

799 421 Daniel Fountain

The Anam, a 117-villa and 96-room resort that commands a stunning beachfront setting and a sublime 10 treatment-room spa, has celebrated its grand opening (April 26) in Vietnam’s most compelling new destination.

Blazing new ground in a destination emerging as a high-end alternative to nearby Nha Trang, the independently owned and operated five-star resort will cut the ribbon on a host of world-class facilities, including the spa, three restaurants and two bars, a 3D movie theatre, a ballroom, conference facilities, water sports centre, yoga room and deck, tennis court, gym, kids club and three swimming pools.

AnamThe Anam’s design pays homage to colonial-era and age-old Vietnamese aesthetics, evoking a nostalgic tone with its imperial Hue-style roofs, glowing lanterns, big-bellied water vases, decorative pools, customised mosaic floor tiles and stone pathways.

Ranging in size from 50sqm to 267sqm, the villas, rooms and suites afford unencumbered views of the ocean, towering headlands, lush gardens and the resort’s swimming and decorative pools. Terraces or balconies jut from every villa. Twenty-seven villas have separate living rooms and their own private swimming pools.

Throughout the resort, old world elegance meets Asian aesthetics and prerogatives in a fusion of East and West. Forests cultivated for sustainable harvests supplied the hardwood. Local artisans designed floor tiles that reference colonial French floors. Vietnamese artwork hung from the walls and perched on plinths open doors on the country’s culture.

AnamThree distinct restaurants, The Indochine, Indochine Grill and Beach Club, and two bars, Saigon Bar and Sports Bar, lure diners from venues casual enough for finger food and refined enough for a baby grand piano.

The Sri Mara Spa comprises 10 treatment rooms, including four VIP rooms designed for couples, each equipped with two massage beds, a steam room, sauna and outdoor granite Jacuzzi.

Soneva Jani, Maldives

Soneva reveals details of new Maldivian resort

750 500 Daniel Fountain

Soneva has revealed details of its Soneva Jani resort in the Maldives which is slated to open in October 2016. The brand’s newest luxury resort offering will comprise 24 water villas and one island villa, with additional island villas planned at a later stage.

Inspired by a word that means wisdom in Sanskrit, Soneva Jani is located on the island of Medhufaru, which is part of an uninhabited five-island cluster in the Noonu Atoll. The highlight of the resort is its location within a 5.6 kilometre lagoon of crystal clear waters with uninterrupted 360° views of the Indian Ocean.

Every water villa has a private pool and opens to its own stretch of lagoon, with some villas featuring slides going directly from the top deck into the lagoon below. The selling point of the villas is the retractable roof in the master bedroom, which slides back at the touch of a button so that guests can lie in bed and stargaze.

Soneva Jani, Maldives (Photo: Richard Waite)

Like all other Soneva properties, the spacious villas feature beautifully designed interiors by Eva Shivdasani, one of Soneva’s co-founders, and are made from the highest quality sustainable materials.

Soneva Jani includes 18 units of one-bedroom Water Retreats, four units of two-bedroom Water Retreats, one three-bedroom Water Retreat, 1 three-bedroom Water Reserve, and one four-bedroom Island Reserve.

In constructing the resort, Soneva kept its environmental impact as low as possible. The pools use seawater with UV filtration and the villas have been built over the sandy floors of the lagoon, with no damage to any part of the reef. Furthermore, solar PV will be a significant source of power generation at the resort, all waste-water will be collected and treated on-site, and water will also be produced on-site, including drinking water. Soneva’s Eco Centro Waste-to-Wealth centre will ensure that waste is recycled, while the extensive vegetable garden will give local produce for the restaurants based on organic principles.

The resort’s soft opening is planned for October 1, 2016, while the official opening date is fixed at November 5, 2016.
