Plans for a £6 million refurbishment of the AA four-star Down Hall Hotel in Hertfordshire have been revealed, with a completion date set for the middle of 2016.While the first stage of refurbishment is well on the way to being completed, which has seen half of the hotel’s rooms brought back to their former architectural glory, the next phase of the refurb will take place in stages. Rooms will be completed floor-by-floor so the hotel can remain operational.

Suites and rooms are set to be high-ceilinged, finished with elegant window pelmets and wall features and delicately patterned wallpapers in a look that the management team are calling ‘classic country house-meets-contemporary chic’.

The new Eden Spa, which has just been completed, offers a new hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, power shower and four new treatment rooms filled with ESPA natural skin and spa products.

The kitchen has also been completely refitted, which will allow head chef Matthew Hill to continue delivering award-winning food and service in the hotels’ Grill Room restaurant.

Andrew Oxley, general manager of Down Hall told the media: “Huge investment is being made to develop both our leisure and corporate facilities to reinforce our position as a four star superior hotel. The combination of experienced staff, premium products and therapeutic treatments will ensure guests are provided with a first rate leisure experience.”

Down Hall dates back to 1322 and is set on 110 acres of woodland near the Hertfordshire-Essex border.
