Modieus has designed a series of bespoke carpets for the newly reimagined Ardour Lilianfels Blue Mountains, working alongside Salter Brothers Hospitality and Luchetti Krelle…
Set within two acres of gardens above the Jamison Valley, the heritage-listed hotel has been reimagined as the latest property to join Ardour Hotels & Estates. Its multimillion-dollar refurbishment introduces a brighter and more contemporary character while respecting the history of one of the Blue Mountains’ best-known destinations. Originally built in 1889 as the summer residence of Sir Frederick and Lady Darley, Lilianfels has welcomed generations of guests. Award-winning architecture and interior design firm Luchetti Krelle, led by directors Rachel Luchetti and Stuart Krelle, drew inspiration from eccentric English garden estates, combining heritage references with colour, pattern and a playful sense of individuality.

The redesign encompasses 89 guestrooms and suites, as well as the reception, lounge, bar and other shared spaces. Three individual colour palettes bring a different mood to the accommodation, connected through bespoke textiles, statement furniture, sculptural joinery and custom carpets created by Modieus. Luchetti Krelle interior designers Janice Baird and Tahlia Tassone worked closely with Modieus Design Manager Leah Manwaring to develop the bespoke carpets. Variations in colour, scale and pattern respond to the mood of each space while maintaining a sense of continuity throughout the hotel.

The result is bright, elegant and welcoming, and the carpets contribute to that renewed sense of character while giving each area its own identity.”
Within the guest accommodation, soft, textural designs complement the interior palettes. Warm terracotta and neutral tones bring depth to light-filled rooms, while deeper blue and charcoal designs create a richer foundation for rooms featuring painted panelling, patterned bedheads and upholstery. The carpets introduce pattern without competing with the rooms’ carefully layered fabrics and furnishings.

In the lounge, a refined geometric design extends across the floor and continues into the adjoining shared spaces, bringing rhythm and continuity to an interior arranged as a series of intimate seating areas. Its muted palette sits comfortably alongside soft blue, blush and neutral upholstery, and the room’s original architectural details.
The renewed interiors form part of a wider guest experience that includes The Lounge, the reimagined bar and wine wall, the award-winning Darley’s Restaurant, Miss Lilian and personalised wellness experiences at Èliva Blue Mountains. Throughout, the design balances the grandeur of the hotel’s past with a more relaxed and welcoming expression of contemporary luxury.
