The Sawrey Hotel, in Far Sawrey, Cumbria has been sold through Knight Frank’s hotels team from a guide price of £1.3 million.

The Sawrey Hotel, dating back to 1700, has 19 en suite bedrooms, a 45 cover dining room, and a 50 cover bar with many original features still in tact such as exposed beams and an open log fire. The property also has parking space for 24 cars. The Sawrey Hotel, located 36 miles from Lancaster, is situated within walking distance of many popular rambling and climbing routes and also close to Beatrix Potter’s former home, Hill Top, which attracts a high number of leisure visitors throughout the year.

Mark Bailey, associate, Knight Frank hotels – Leeds commented: “Having been in the same family for over 40 years the sale of The Sawrey Hotel, Far Sawrey, represents a rare opportunity to acquire a strategically located Lakeland Inn, being situated between the Hawkeshead Ferry, HillTop and Hawkeshead beyond.

“The hotel was purchased by local hotelier Jonathan Denby amidst interest from many other would be buyers. Mr Denby intends to implement a refurbishment programme to improve the letting accommodation and in the public areas to drive food & beverage sales, from the significant amount of passing trade the hotel enjoys.”
