Last month HotelDesigns provided information on the new CRC Scheme and took a closer look at green hotels. Since then we have asked some of the big hotel groups what they think of the new CRC Scheme and how it will affect their business and the way they operate. Both Hilton and Starwood said that they are happy to work with the government on the new scheme in order to improve their carbon footprints. Hilton is the first hospitality company to achieve the Carbon Trust certification, a stamp given to businesses that are working towards a low carbon economy.
Carbon Trust Standard, general manager, Harry Morrison said: “Hilton reducing its carbon emissions will ultimately make the business more efficient while the Carbon Trust Standard is a credible mark of excellence that lets customers and other businesses know about the good work that Hilton is doing to reduce its environmental impact.”
Hilton said that over the past three years the company had already focused on energy management, saving more than 45,000 tonnes of CO2 and £2m a year.
