Hilton Hotels & Resorts announced today that the 571-room hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico, formerly known as Conrad San Juan Condado Plaza, has been renamed and rebranded as The Condado Plaza Hilton. Joining more than 550 Hilton hotels and resorts in 79 countries across six continents, The Condado Plaza Hilton now represents the Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand’s fourth hotel on the island.Designed by renowned architect Morris Lapidus, the Condado Plaza – the hotel’s original name – was inaugurated in 1963. Since then, the San Juan hotel has shared a wealth of names, including its own historic connection to Hilton, having once operated as the San Geronimo Hilton. In 2008, the property was revamped and redesigned by noted designer Leo Daly, and in 2009, branded as part of Hilton Worldwide’s Conrad Hotels & Resorts portfolio.

The new name, which places the hotel’s original name at the forefront – The Condado Plaza Hilton – represents the significant value placed on the hotel’s heritage on the island, as well as Hilton’s history in Puerto Rico.

“Puerto Rico holds special significance to Hilton Hotels & Resorts, as Hilton International was launched with the opening of the Caribe Hilton, San Juan in 1949, and then enjoyed having the San Geronimo Hilton in its portfolio for several years. We are proud to reconnect this hotel with its roots, both as The Condado Plaza and as a member of Hilton Hotels & Resorts,” said Danny Hughes, senior vice president, Caribbean, Mexico and Latin America, Hilton Worldwide.

While embracing the hotel’s historic roots, the rebranded The Condado Plaza Hilton will maintain its distinct DNA as the only city retreat in San Juan overlooking both the Atlantic Ocean and Condado Lagoon, and now welcome guests to the Hilton Hotels & Resorts’brand promise of providing refreshing hospitality while ensuring that every guest feels cared for, valued and respected.

“This is an exciting time for us as we once again form part of the Hilton Hotels & Resorts portfolio – a powerful and respected brand on the island,” said Raúl Bustamante, managing director, The Condado Plaza Hilton. “The Condado Plaza Hilton will continue to offer our guests the high level of quality service they have come to enjoy, with the same management and team committed to delivering a warm and friendly welcome.”

The Condado Plaza Hilton is the fourth Hilton Hotels & Resorts property in Puerto Rico, joining Caribe Hilton, San Juan; El San Juan Resort & Casino, A Hilton Hotel; and Hilton Ponce Golf & Casino Resort.
