A charming, new boutique hotel has opened in Milan, the Italian capital for fashion, design and lifestyle. The Hotel Milano Scala lies in the artistic and cultural district of Brera, the heart of the city centre and the location for many of the city’s most important theatres, museums and exclusive shopping streets. Following a soft opening on September 2nd, the hotel celebrated its Grand Opening on the 21st September 2010. Located in a late nineteenth century, seven-storey building and blending beautifully into the surrounding architectural landscape, the Hotel Milano Scala distinguishes itself for being the first zero-emission hotel in town. It stands as one of Italy’s few hotels to employ a heat recovery system to both control climate and produce hot water, while also only buying energy from suppliers using clean and renewable energy sources. This process ultimately produces energy without any kind of fuel and without releasing CO2 into the environment – a breath of fresh air in one of the most industrialized and polluted cities in Europe.

The old palazzo hosting the Hotel Milano Scala has recently undergone a complete renovation, and now offers 62 rooms including 10 suites, three meeting rooms, and a charming restaurant and Sky Terrace, a scenic terrace with a breathtaking view of Milan’s historical centre. Both the hotel’s name and its concept are strongly connected to musical culture – and in particular Opera – something considered by many to be one of the preeminent characteristics of Milan. From the moment they arrive, guests are taken on a sensorial, photographic and musical journey, gently drawn in by the hotel’s quiet, elegant atmosphere.

Within the hotel there is a strong desire to make the rooms and public areas places where people can meet, act as a stage for events, or simply offer pleasant surroundings for a break from hectic city life. This desire led to the process of designing a “ground floor” where guests are initially welcomed by the warm and vibrant atmosphere of the contemporary-style Lounge Bar, Primadonna; guests are then led on to a comfortable “Lobby”, formerly the ancient courtyard of the building, today turned into a conversation room, a thematic library and an area featuring individual stations to enjoy one’s favourite music. The “Lobby” also boasts a crystal ceiling offering a delightful view of the vertical gardens. The restaurant, La Traviata, invites guests to savour traditional dishes of the Milanese cuisine, with an international touch.

The hotel is part of WORLDHOTELS, one of the most important and prestigious affiliation hotel chains.
