Twelve at Hengshan, A Luxury Collection Hotel, opening on 29 November 2012, collaborated with some of the world’s leading architects and designers to create this landmark property at the heart of Shanghai’s most romantic neighbourhood.The whimsical design draws inspiration from the area’s rich history and traditional Chinese hospitality, updated with romantic flourishes and contemporary amenities. The goal was to create an exclusive garden oasis of urban chic in the heart of China’s most cosmopolitan city.
Twelve at Hengshan is the only five-star luxury hotel within Shanghai’s history-filled Hengshan Road neighbourhood of chic avenues lined with plane trees imported from France in the early 1900s.
Iconic Architecture
Italian architect Mario Botta created the residential-style retreat designed in modern-Chinoiserie style. Botta’s impressive portfolio of iconic structures includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Samsung Museum of Art in Seoul, South Korea.
The hotel’s striking contemporary architecture provides a contrast with the atmospheric neighbourhood lanes, preserved art deco buildings, and charming restaurants, boutiques and galleries in the surrounding area.
