Mandarin Oriental enters South America with Hotel Santiago

Hotel Santiago has opened under Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group management, following the Group’s announcement in May. Formerly the Grand Hyatt Santiago, the property will undergo an extensive guestroom and public area renovation, the first stage of which is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2018.

The hotel will remain open throughout the period, and is now accepting reservations. This is the Group’s first property in South America.

The property comprises 310 guestrooms including 23 suites with commanding views of the city and the Andes. Its 25,000-square-metre grounds contain a large free-form outdoor pool and landscaped gardens which provide a resort environment for guests. The hotel currently features five restaurants and bars as well as extensive banqueting and meeting space. Additional facilities include a spa and fitness centre.

Hotel Santiago will continue to operate throughout the first phase of the renovation which will reposition the property as a Mandarin Oriental hotel in the third quarter of 2018. Mandarin Oriental enters South American market with hotel in Santiago

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has announced that it has signed a management contract to manage, and ultimately brand, a 310-room hotel currently operating in Santiago, Chile.

The Group will take over management of the property from August 2017, and rename it Hotel Santiago. Following an extensive guestroom and public area renovation, the first stage of which is scheduled to complete in August 2018, the hotel will be rebranded Mandarin Oriental, Santiago. This will be the Group’s first property in South America.

Hotel Santiago is located in the heart of the city’s most important commerce and leisure district, known as Las Condes, home to two luxury shopping malls, restaurants, museums and theatres. It is also close to the exclusive residential neighbourhood of Vitacura. The property is owned by Hotel Corporation of Chile (HCC).

The property comprises 310 guestrooms including 23 suites with commanding views of the city and the Andes. Its 25,000-square meter grounds contain a large free-form outdoor pool and landscaped gardens which provide a resort environment for guests. Hilton has announced the opening of Hilton Rio de Janeiro Copacabana, marking a significant milestone as the company’s 100th hotel in Latin America.

The 545-room beachfront Hilton Rio de Janeiro Copacabana is one of the largest hotels in the famous Copacabana neighbourhood, one of Brazil’s most visited destinations, and represents Hilton’s second property in the city.

Meliá Hotels International has launched its first luxury hotel from the Gran Meliá brand in Brazil with the official opening of Gran Meliá Nacional Rio in March 2017.

Located in Rio de Janeiro’s most exclusive area, São Conrado, Gran Meliá Nacional Rio is one of the most anticipated hotel openings in South America.

Originally built in 1972 by the world renowned architect, Oscar Niemeyer, the famous ‘Hotel Nacional’ has reopened after more than a decade of being left abandoned, as the Gran Meliá brand’s flagship property. Following extensive renovations, the property has been restored to its former glory, maintaining the hotel’s original features, with the modern Spanish flare of the Gran Meliá brand.

Recognised as a national heritage site, Gran Meliá Nacional Rio houses some of Brazil’s most treasured modern art. The artwork includes 270 individually sculpted concrete slabs depicting classic carioca characters. Burle Marx’s gardens are also a stunning legacy belonging to the hotel and feature 46 species of native Brazilian plants and classic paving stones, known as “calçado”, which have been imported from Portugal.

Marriott International inks deal to debut Tribute Portfolio in Latin America

Tribute Portfolio will be debuting in Latin America, according to a Marriott statement. By December 2016, the brand will add two independent hotels to its portfolio in Argentina’s most sought-after regions.

Arelauquen Lodge, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel, will be debut in Patagonia, near the world’s end, with vast landscapes of lakes and mountains, while Auberge du Vin, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel, will be located in the heart of Argentina’s wine country, where some of the world’s best wine is produced.

AccorHotels launches Jo&Joe brand for millennials

AccorHotels will be launching a new hospitality brand called JO&JOE. Its aim is to blend the best of private-rental, hostel and hotel formats to reinvent and provide a disruptive experience in terms of design approach, catering, service and the customer journey.

AccorHotels plans to expand rapidly by opening 50 venues by 2020, with locations including Paris and Bordeaux (2018) as well as Warsaw, Budapest, Rio and São Paulo.

Accorhotels has released visuals of the new design of the hotels, along with descriptions of what guests may expect. In general, Jo and Joe properties are described as “a vibrant living space, a home that is open to the external world and designed to meet the expectations of Millennials and all those who value sharing, spontaneity and experience”.

The design for the new hotels has been in collaboration with UK design company Penson (also known for flagship designs including campuses for Google, YouTube, Jaguar Land Rover and interiors of the world’s 5th tallest building, Lotte World Tower).

Radisson Blu recently opened its first location in Chile. The opening of the Radisson Blu Santiago La Dehesa follows Radisson Blu Sao Paulo and Radisson Blu Belo Horizonte, Savassi in Brazil, which opened earlier this year.

Formerly the Radisson Santiago La Dehesa, the hotel recently completely an extensive renovation and enhanced service training to become Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group’s upper-upscale brand, Radisson Blu. Renovations of the hotel included a redesigned lobby, updates to dining facilities and refreshed guestrooms.

Showcasing the brand’s acclaimed design ethic, Yoo2 Rio de Janeiro’s rooms and interiors offer spectacular, unrivalled views of the beach, Sugar Loaf Mountain and Corcovado (Christ the Redeemer) from opposite sides. The design reflects local influences and the hotel has worked with local artists and artisans – including Marcelo Ment, a Rio based street artist who has designed a striking graffiti mural in the lift shaft which can be marveled at from glass lifts as guests travel through the hotel.

Interiors incorporate Rio’s signature colours, patterns and energy with palm-tree and rainforest inspired ceiling prints, street art bedside tables – available for guests to purchase and take home – and the iconic Brazilian-tiled and parquet flooring. The land of emeralds has a new gem in the luxuriously intimate Four Seasons Hotel Bogotá, where every design detail is handcrafted, and every guest experience is completely personalised. The second Four Seasons in the city spills onto the vibrant street scene, while providing a warm haven of customised service and sophisticated style for its guests.

Inspired by the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains, Rottet Studio created a design aesthetic for Four Seasons Hotel Bogota combining pattern, texture, colour and craftsmanship that is epitomised in the bright new lobby. Here, wooden screens form airy “walls” that climb up across the ceiling, enveloping guests in warmth accentuated with touches of rich green evoking Colombia’s famous emeralds.

An oasis of quiet glamour awaits guests who stay in one of 64 rooms and suites, with custom-made beds framed by dark leather headboards and panelling, and pale floors of locally-sourced hardwood. Throughout the Hotel, nearly all materials are Colombian, with furnishings, finishes and artwork all handcrafted by the country’s artisans and artists. Featured artworks include pieces by Pablo Tomayo, Alicia Garavito and José Antonio Suárez Londoño, and a custom-designed, hand-beaded installation made in traditional style and spanning 40-plus-feet (almost 15 metres) is the backdrop for dining at Biblioteca restaurant.

Luis Argote, who grew up in the city and is now General Manager of both Four Seasons Hotel Bogota and Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá, said: “If you thought you knew Bogota, you’re in for a surprise, and if you’ve never been here before, I promise you’ll be back.”
