Disney will begin construction next summer on a new 700-room hotel at the Anaheim Disneyland Resort, Disney Parks Blog reports.

The new hotel will mark the first luxurious four-diamond hotel to open in Disney’s Anaheim resort in almost 20 years. The property is planned as an entry for ‘a new gateway’ to the resort. It”ll be located on the west end of the park”s Downtown Disney district.

In front of the hotel, an ‘expansive landscaped plaza complete with playful water features’ is planned. Further landscaping and walkways will link the new hotel with the resort”s four existing hotels, creating a new entrance to the park from the west.

The huge new hotel will take up 17 acres, and it will rise where the AMC theater, an Earl of Sandwich shop, the ESPN Zone, and Rainforest Cafe now stand, reports the Orange County Register. Disneyland officials told the Register that they”ve started to share their plans with tenants who would be displaced and say it”s possible some many find space to operate in the future hotel, which is expected to open in 2021.

According to reports in the Daily Telegraph last week, Disney is planning a Marvel-themed hotel at its Paris park.

The Disneyland Paris opening will be a reworking of its current hotel, Hotel New York and will be renamed Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel, with displays of props and costumes from numerous Marvel films and television shows, as well as artwork inspired by the original comic books.

The exterior will resemble Stark Tower, Tony Stark/Iron Man’s Manhattan skyscraper, if early rumours are to be believed.

Inside, the four-star hotel will offer 565 guest rooms, as well as a distinctive New York-inspired décor that, from the renderings, also appear to resemble Iron Man’s fictional high-rise hideout. An opening date has not, as of yet, been revealed.

The hotel was announced at the recent D23 Expo in Anaheim. Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney Parks and Resorts, said: “We’re going to create a hotel at Disneyland Paris that would make Tony Stark proud.”

“I’m thrilled to announce that Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel will transport our guests to the action-packed, inspiring world of Super Heroes including Iron Man, The Avengers, and Spider Man among others!”, he added.

During a special preview of D23 Expo 2017, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek unveiled a first look at the epic, richly detailed model of the Star Wars-themed lands under development at Disneyland park in Anaheim, California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. The exhibition is on display in Walt Disney Parks and Resorts’ “A Galaxy of Stories” pavilion at D23 Expo.

“To say we are excited for the Star Wars-themed lands to open in 2019 is an understatement,” Chapek said. “All along, we have said this will be game-changing, and through the model we can begin to see how truly epic these immersive new worlds will be.”
