As AI and technology dominates industry conversation, this issue of SPACE celebrates the opposite: the original, tactile, and daring design emerging in response – the patina of humanity that no algorithm can replicate…
Hot off the press – the latest SPACE design magazine’s Visionary is Tristan Auer, who shares his sur mesure philosophy and why, for him, luxury means singularity. In Leaders, Amar Lalvani, Hyatt’s Executive Vice President, President & Creative Director of Lifestyle, discusses brand building and taking The Standard global, while Minor International founder William E. Heinecke reflects on 25 years of Anantara and why putting people first never goes out of style.
The hotels featured span the globe: Tristan du Plessis’s Morea House in Cape Town; Philippe Starck’s surreal Maison Heler in Metz; the preservation-first renewal of Lagen Island Resort in the Philippines by WATG and Wimberly Interiors; Festen Architecture’s Hôtel du Couvent in Nice; Four Seasons Hotel & Residences Cartagena, featuring the work of the late François Catroux; and Bus Palladium, Pigalle’s legendary rock club reborn by Studio KO.
The issue closes with Suite Dreams, an extended feature on the latest directions in guestroom and suite design, including a first look at the Sea Containers Thames Suite Collection.

“Whilst putting together this issue and signing off each story, one thing stood out to me across the pages. In a time where the development of technology and AI feels all very imposing, the projects and design minds featured in this issue all share a sense of individuality, history, and surprise that I saw as unmistakably human.
Whether intentional or not, it’s a natural response to our hyper-digitalised world, and one that we gladly celebrate in this issue. So, pick up your hard copy, flick the paper through your fingers, earmark pages to return to, and if you are feeling particularly inspired by any of the beautiful photographs, cut them out and pin them on your vision board. Enjoy Issue 61 of SPACE.” – Jess Miles, Editor, SPACE
