Roman to the Rescue – kitchen and bathroom renovation

Leading UK shower designer and manufacturer, Roman, has once again worked with popular TV show, Cowboy Builders, to help a family in need when their home is left ruined by reckless workmen. The show, which aired in September, uncovered a prolific cowboy builder wreaking havoc in the heart of the Asian community in Oldham. One of the families majorly affected was the Rashid family, who have lived in a mid-terrace property for 17 years and with their two children growing fast, they desperately wanted more living space. Married couple Bushra and Sagrid decided that they wanted a single storey side and rear extension to create a new kitchen and downstairs bathroom.

Sagid had to return to Pakistan to visit his sick mother and his wife Bushra decided to get the building work done while he was away, thinking that she could surprise him with a finished extension on his return. After receiving a leaflet through the door, Bushra contacted a builder who promised to deliver a professional build in 16 weeks.

But after nine months, having spent a fortune, the family had been left without heating, hot water or a kitchen – and with a half-finished, structurally unsafe extension that had to be completely knocked down.

Having helped out a number of times on Cowboy Builders, Roman was very keen to get involved and offered products for the new downstairs bathroom. The new downstairs bathroom was to accommodate Bushra’s disabled mother when she came to visit, so one of the key considerations was inclusivity.

Roman selected a stylish Embrace Wetroom Panel from their exceptional collection of wetroom systems and it was installed straight to floor with their Roman Shield Wetroom System. When installing straight to floor, your floor and walls must be waterproof (tanked). So they used the Roman Shield Wetroom System to tank the space, which presents an all in one wetroom solution. The Roman Shield Wetroom System includes everything you need to tank a room, including complete wetroom kits to make the process easy. The downstairs bathroom presented a small space, which needed to fit a toilet, sink and wetroom, but Roman’s 600mm Wetroom Panel fitted perfectly into the limited room space, giving a luxury and inclusive showering area for the whole family.

The Rashid family were delighted with their bathroom and with the rest of their home.

David Osborne, Managing Director of Roman, commented: “We are always very happy to help programmes such as Cowboy Builders. The cowboy builders have caused such devastation and leave the families with financial difficulty, a ruined home and heartache with no way out. We are always delighted to be able to help with the fixing and finishing of the families homes and help them achieve the stunning bathroom they had hoped for. This bathroom was not only practical for the disabled family member but also presented a real designer look.”
