On 2nd October, 2014, NEWH United Kingdom, the premier networking resource for the hospitality industry, is holding its annual fundraising event to benefit the students of Ravensbourne College of Design & Communication. The evening social is being held in the garden conservatory of the Hoxton Shoreditch hotel and is NEWH-UK’s main fundraising event for the year, with all event proceeds going into the NEWH-UK scholarship fund.2014 marks the first year NEWH-UK is sponsoring students from Ravensbourne. NEWH-UK directors selected Ravensbourne for their sponsorship program for many reasons, chief among them being:
• 92% of students are from state school backgrounds and are based in the UK
• 30% are from minority ethnic backgrounds
“After several years supporting the Royal College of Art, we feel it’s an appropriate time for a change.” explains Carolyn Banks, NEWH-UK Sponsorship Director. “Beginning this year, we have chosen to offer scholarships to students on the Architecture & Interior Design course at Ravensbourne.”
The scholarship entries will be from 2nd-year degree students who will have completed a hospitality project as part of their curriculum. The scholarships will help them fund their third year of study towards a degree. The work of three selected students will also be shown at upcoming hospitality industry events in London.
The NEWH-UK Annual Fundraiser event can host up to 100 people and is expected to sell out. Event guests will include interior designers, hotel operators and suppliers working within the hospitality industry—professional networking is a key benefit for attendees. Visiting members of the NEWH corporate leadership in the USA will also be in attendance.
In addition to money raised by ticket sales, five corporate sponsors are financially supporting the event: Distinction Contract, Crosswater, Porcelanosa, Panaz and Vescom.
The NEWH UK Annual Fundraiser at the Hoxton Shoreditch starts at 6 pm on 2nd October and will continue until around 11 pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are £40 for NEWH members and £50 for non-members.
