InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) Hotel Indigo® brand has opened its third hotel in the New York Metro area, the 108-room Hotel Indigo Newark Downtown. Located at 810 Broad Street, this unique hotel is in the historic National State Bank Building and sits on one of the busiest corners in New Jersey, at the intersection of business, retail and culture – making it easy to walk around the neighbourhood and discover the local scene. The boutique hotel celebrates Newark’s rich history of innovation and commerce, telling the story of modern innovation over time, including a young Thomas Edison’s work to invent the stock ticker. The hotel is helping to further the revitalization efforts of the area as it continues to develop as a vibrant and cosmopolitan destination. The Newark neighbourhood story is brought to life within the hotel through art, photography and architecture incorporated into the hotel’s design, bringing local character to guests at every touch point. For example, the mosaic tile mural of Edison’s ticker tape writer displayed in the lobby was created by local artists from Glass Roots, a local community organization dedicated to promoting youth development through the arts. Additionally, the historic nature of the building, which dates back to 1912, is preserved through the exposed brick visible in guestrooms and public areas, with the furniture and upholstery embodying a vintage feel.

The Hotel Indigo Newark Downtown features restaurant ALVA and café Workshop, which offers guests and locals the opportunity to enjoy seasonal and locally sourced food from local vendors like the Military Park Farmer’s Market, and a special blend of coffee made exclusively for the hotel by TM Ward Coffee, a brand that has been in Newark for the last 145 years – bringing a taste of the neighbourhood into the hotel for guests. The restaurant helps preserve the historic nature of the building with unique touches including the conversion of the original bank vault into a pizza oven. The hotel also features Skylab, the only rooftop bar in Downtown Newark, providing guests beautiful panoramic views of the New York City skyline and locally inspired cocktails.

Guestrooms feature plush bedding, hard-surface flooring with area rugs and spa-inspired bathrooms. Each room also features an iPad with options to browse the internet, window shade and temperature setting controls, order room service and make service requests. Guests have access to a 24-hour fitness center and meeting space for up to 45 people in the Edison Room. The Newark hotel will feature the brand’s new Neighbourhood Guide, an innovative touchscreen display that connects guests to each other, the local neighbourhood and to Hotel Indigo locations around the world. Hotel team members, many of whom are locals themselves, will share their favourite hidden gems with guests looking to explore and discover the neighbourhood.

The Hotel Indigo Newark Downtown hotel is owned by The Hanini Group, LLC, and managed by Crestline Hotels & Resorts, Inc.
