Hotel Principe di Savoia will close for a landmark restoration as Dorchester Collection invests in the next century of one of Europe’s most celebrated luxury hotels…
Dorchester Collection has announced an extensive restoration of Hotel Principe di Savoia, one of Milan’s most iconic addresses.
Timed to coincide with the hotel’s centenary, the ambitious project represents one of the largest investments in the property’s history, reimagining the celebrated hotel with larger guestrooms and suites, new wellness and dining experiences, private residences and a rooftop destination overlooking the evolving Milan skyline, while carefully protecting the heritage that has defined the Principe since 1927.
To realise this vision, Hotel Principe di Savoia will temporarily close from 1 January 2027 and is expected to reopen in 2029.

The Dorchester Collection commented: “The world’s great hotels become part of the fabric of the cities they call home. They bring people together, witness their defining moments and, over time, earn their place among the stories that shape a city’s identity.” For almost a century, Hotel Principe di Savoia has indeed held that place in Milan and is recognised around the globe as arguably one of Europe’s great hotels. With this in mind, the hotel will be “cared for with imagination, restored with exceptional craftsmanship and entrusted to each new generation with the same vision and commitment that first brought them to life.”

The company states that when Hotel Principe di Savoia reopens, it will reveal a more intimate expression of the hotel, with significantly enlarged guestrooms and suites alongside a limited collection of private residences.
A spa and wellness destination, vibrant dining, and a rooftop venue overlooking Milan’s evolving skyline will together create a hotel worthy of the Principe’s remarkable legacy.Christopher Cowdray, President of Dorchester Collection commented: “Since its opening in 1927, Hotel Principe di Savoia has become part of the life of Milan and the lives of generations of guests. As the hotel enters its centenary year, Dorchester Collection is embarking on a restoration which will reposition the hotel in its rightful place as the city’s leading hotel. Few opportunities are more exciting than helping shape the future of a hotel with such a remarkable legacy. We are immensely proud to be investing in its next century, ensuring it continues to enrich the cultural life of Milan and welcome future generations with the same warmth, elegance and generosity that have defined the Principe for almost one hundred years.”
