As part of the £1.3 billion transformation of Olympia into one of Europe’s most ambitious cultural and business destinations, the new Hyatt Regency London Olympia occupies a unique position between heritage and reinvention…
Located within a listed Art Deco building, the 204-room Hyatt Regency London Olympia has been reimagined by twenty2degrees Design Partnership as a contemporary hospitality destination deeply connected to its surroundings. Working closely with the design team, Ulster Carpets supplied bespoke woven Axminster carpets throughout the hotel, helping to create a continuous design language that connects public areas, meeting spaces, and guestrooms.

Twenty2degrees interpreted the building’s unique Art Deco architectural heritage through a contemporary lens. This approach is reflected in the carpet designs, where geometric forms and subtle patterning draw inspiration from the rhythm and detailing of the original architecture while remaining refined and modern.
“It’s no longer a question of whether hotels should offer a narrative and sense of place in their design, but how they, and their designers, should do this. I believe that most guests do not want to feel preached at by their hotel environments with over-familiar references and we therefore choose to abstract from a culture, art form or heritage to create a balance between clarity and ambiguity. Bespoke carpet design is a great medium for this approach, allowing us to transform our original inspiration through pattern, weave and colour variations. Working with Ulster Carpets on the Hyatt Regency London Olympia has been a great pleasure and together we have created carpets that uniquely, yet subtly, belong.” – Joe Stella, Creative Director, twenty2degrees Design Partnership

The versatility of woven Axminster proved central to the scheme. Intricate patterns, layered colour and tonal variation allowed each space to develop its own identity while maintaining a cohesive visual thread across the guest journey. In the open-plan public areas, bespoke carpet designs help guide movement through the space, complementing a rich palette of marble, oak, textured finishes and crafted metallic details. Throughout lift lobbies, corridors and meeting rooms, the designs evolve in scale and composition, creating continuity without repetition.
Within the guestrooms, the pattern language becomes more understated, providing a calm and sophisticated backdrop that supports the hotel’s contemporary aesthetic while subtly reinforcing the wider narrative.
More than a flooring solution, the carpets form part of the storytelling of the hotel itself, translating Olympia’s Art Deco legacy into a modern hospitality experience and creating a seamless connection among architecture, interior design, and guest experience.
