Ulster Carpets builds on four design influences to create FORM

From the structure of woven textiles to the geometry of architecture, Ulster Carpets’ new FORM collection brings together more than 60 Axminster designs for hospitality interiors, drawing on four distinct sources of inspiration.

Sarah Moffatt, the Ulster Carpets designer who created FORM, explained: “The idea behind FORM was to make specification easier without compromising on design.

“When putting the collection together, I focused on selecting designs that complemented one another and developing a colour palette that enhanced the character of each pattern. It was important that the collection felt cohesive, while still offering enough variety to suit different interiors and design schemes.”

The collection is organised into four chapters: Textile Form, Natural Form, Geometric Form and Timeless Form. Textile Form looks closely at the character of woven fabrics. Subtle repeats and layered details create patterns with a sense of depth and tactility, offering texture that can sit comfortably alongside other materials in an interior. Natural Form takes its cues from landscapes, geology and patterns found in the natural world. Fluid shapes are balanced by an underlying structure, giving the designs a softer feel while retaining a clear rhythm across the floor.

Precision and repetition come to the fore in Geometric Form. It’s small to mid-scale patterns use line and proportion to create a sense of order and movement, particularly across the larger floor areas often found in hospitality interiors.

Timeless Form revisits influences including Art Deco, mid-century design and classic European architecture. Rather than reproducing period styles, the chapter draws on familiar motifs and architectural details to create carpets suited to contemporary spaces.

Together, the four chapters offer different ways to introduce pattern into an interior, from a quiet textured foundation to a more recognisable design feature. Every FORM design can be recoloured for an individual project, allowing designers to work with the collection’s patterns while developing a colour story specific to the space. FORM complements Ulster Carpets’ bespoke Axminster service. Designers can explore recoloured designs in room sets through Ulster’s Design Portal and order project samples, which can be despatched within five working days. The collection is available to order from 200 sqm.
