On 11th February, Travelodge celebrated the official opening of its seventh hotel in the Welsh capital with the opening of Cardiff Central Queen Street. The new 96 room hotel used to be the former Principality Building Society Headquarters. The £5million hotel, which has created 25 new jobs, offers visitors to the city a comfortable room from just £19. The new Cardiff Central Queen Street Travelodge is the budget chain’s 25th hotel in Wales and the new opening has boosted total jobs provided by Travelodge in Wales to 311.

Cardiff latest hotel was opened by the Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Councillor Keith Hyde and Travelodge’s District Manager for Wales, Matthew Bridle.

Cardiff’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Keith Hyde said: “I’m delighted to see that despite the current economic difficulties we face, businesses are still willing to invest within this great city. At a time of economic uncertainty, the new Travelodge hotel will provide much needed investment and employment opportunities for the local area.”

Lewis Thomas, Cardiff Central Queen Street Travelodge’s Hotel Manager said:
“Business is booming in Cardiff and there is a real demand for good quality budget accommodation. Our six other hotels are performing really well and my hotel is off to a flying start with rugby and music fans staying over to watch the games at the Millennium Stadium and to see their favourite musicians at the Cardiff International Arena ”.

All of the 25 staff members at Cardiff Central Queen Street Travelodge were recruited via Travelodge’s national Job Centre Plus scheme which helps the long-term unemployed get back into the work place. All successful candidates completed a comprehensive four week training programme at a nearby Travelodge hotel and attended a sleep seminar to ensure they are fully equipped to ensure their customers get a good night’s sleep.

Cardiff Central Queen Street Travelodge offers a range of rooms which include: family, double and accessible. All of the rooms have been styled in the company’s contemporary room design which includes a red, white and blue colour scheme and mood lighting.

A Travelodge family room caters for either two adults and two children or three adults. Each room has en-suite facilities with eco-friendly showers, a flat screen TV with 18 free digital channels, free tea and coffee making facilities and Wi-Fi.

The hotel also has a Bar Café which offers a breakfast, dinner and bar service.
