The team behind the world-leading PGA Catalunya Resort, near Barcelona, Spain, has confirmed that a new five-star hotel will open at the resort in June, following an investment of €33 million.

Hotel Camiral will be a stellar addition to the world-class facilities already on offer at the Costa Brava resort, a European Tour Destination featuring Spain’s number one golf course.

In addition to its two championship layouts, The Stadium Course and Tour Course, PGA Catalunya Resort is an international centre of excellence for training and coaching and is home to Europe’s largest chipping and putting green, the Sergio Garcia Junior Golf Academy and the Dave Pelz Spanish Golf School. The new hotel has been created by the critically-acclaimed interior designer Lazaro Rosa-Violán. The 149-room luxury hotel will combine contemporary design with striking urban-chic interiors to compliment the modern, low-density development that has made PGA Catalunya Resort one of the most sought after golf destinations in the world.

June 2016 sees the soft launch of the hotel, which will add three new dining options to the resort, including the new à la carte 1477 restaurant, a lounge bistro and a pool-side bar – all specialising in produce from the local area and taking inspiration from the gourmet scene on PGA Catalunya Resort’s doorstep.

Hotel Camiral will also offer an extensive programme of experiences, from local activities and outdoor pursuits to cultural tours of nearby Girona and Barcelona that can be arranged through its exclusive concierge services.

The new hotel follows a programme of investments at the resort which started in 2010 with extensive upgrades to the Stadium Course, including changing the grass type on its fairways to resilient, drought-resistant Bermuda grass – the same variety used at Augusta National, home of The Masters. PGA Catalunya was subsequently ranked among the World’s Top 100 Golf Courses (Golf World) and voted 2015 Golf Resort of the Year for Europe (IAGTO).

David Plana, PGA Catalunya Resort’s CEO, said: “The hotel is the first element of our three-year, €53 million development plan, which will also see a new vineyard, sports facilities, an equestrian centre and a man-made recreational lake added to the resort – all of which underline our continued commitment to ensuring PGA Catalunya Resort maintains its status as a leading global golf destination.”

Less than an hour from the vibrant metropolis of Barcelona, 20 minutes from the beaches of the Costa Brava and just 15 minutes from the historic town of Girona, Hotel Camiral will be the perfect location for golfers, sports enthusiasts, culture aficionados, foodies and their families.
